So is everyone looking forward to Ike and Troy's return for our end-of-season run?
This is not the D we have become accustomed to as Steeler fans.. no doubt about that..
Ike is done. Troy is not a factor anymore. With that being said...one of those scores was on a short field off of a turnover. The D has played well enough to keep us in the game.
The problem I have today is with this offense. We supposedly have one of the best QB, RB, and WRs in the game... along with numerous other weapons... and we can (to this point) only put up 16 pts.. It's hard to point the finger at the D without looking at the other side of the ball as well.
Eliminate the picks and we still lose. The Saints quit trying on offense after they got to 35. They could have scored 50.
Ben also was under tremendous pressure for much of the first half.
Ben's throws were completely off. Too high, too wide, thrown to the wrong uniform, you name it. He's currently strictly a garbage time QB; that's when he really shines.
His int on the throw to DHB flipped the game -- possibly a 14 point swing.
Ben played a terrible game today and put us in a hole that we just couldn't climb out of. His performance today reminded me of the Jacksonville playoff game in 2007. The thing that makes it worse is that he's the one talking about how everyone needs to step their game up down the stretch...and he comes out with his worst game of the year.
Pathetic and small performance.
Although he's had some less than spectacular games this year - especially against inferior teams - Ben is more often than not, the reason we win games. Anyone who thinks he's done or is holding this team back, is either a straight-up hater, stupid, or still upset over the loss.
The real problem with this team is the defense...or lack thereof. We cannot cover anyone, we cannot apply any kind of consistent pass rush, and we constantly get gashed against the run. We're a patchwork of declining veterans, free agent busts, under-performing draft picks, and injured spectators. Even with such a sad mixed sack, you would think that we could at least resemble an NFL defense. Today we certainly did not and there have been far to many days like today over the past few seasons.
Without this defense pulling themselves up off the mat, this whole nonsense about a playoff push is a moot point. As much as I hope they can do it, I just don't see it happening.
I believe this is Ike's last year with the steelers. I don't say this with any satisfaction or lack of respect for Taylor - he's been a phenomenal player for the steelers, but I believe his play has declined and as his salary has risen the steelers have likely passed the point where they keep him on the roster. I also think Troy is one year removed beyond that. Same situation. love the guy and nothing but respect - but can anyone remember the last 'splash play' troy made?
it's sad and unfortunate that two of the greatest dbacks in steelers history are nearing the end of their careers - but it's been wonderful to watch them over the years. not so much lately, but that's life in the NFL.
