Chiefs to Grab Nick Williams Off Steelers PS

Now the Steelers lose another young D-lineman with some promise.

Good thing they have the likes of Cam Thomas out there, getting so many snaps.

Its that time of year. Late in the season, injuries piling up and teams are trying to stay in the game.

I normally don't worry about PS players because they have that status for a reason, but I think the Steelers really tried to hide him. If anyone actually seen that first preseason game NW was a stud and didn't see another snap if I recall. And to actually give Landry a spot its even worse because no team in their right mind would've touched him. Bad move

It's pretty hard to "hide" players in this day and age. Years ago you could report fake injuries and stockpile guys on IR. They've cracked down on that. Nowadays, if a guy is on the PS and there's any tape on him, even if it's just one game, he's not very well hidden.

What happens to a team that loses a PS player ... does that mean we are free to hire anyone we want?

And the claiming team ... do they have to release someone, I'd imagine?

Last question: Did we release someone and pick up someone else's PS RB when we lost Blount?

            Thanks!

We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

Honestly...This has to be Colbert's pride. Teams learn about losing a PS player. They could have made a move. Maybe Williams knee is 100% but His "potential" had to be worth more than Thomas's floor which is where he's laying & playing at. Unreal.

On another note...I saw somewhere the Steelers will sign Joe Kruger to the PS to replace.

I was thinking the same thing about Thomas when Mauro got picked up by Arizona. I guess Hemer is next!.

If a team loses a PS squad they are free to sign another player provided he meets the criteria to be placed on the Practice Squad. You can't sign another teams practice squad player to your practice squad. He must go to the 53 man active roster and is guaranteed 3 weeks of NFL minimum salary paychecks even if not retained for the full 3 weeks. You can't sign a a PS guy straight to your PS unless his original team released him first.

Yes, the team that signs the PS guy to their roster has to release a player to make room for him (or put them on IR, etc).

The Steelers promoted Josh Harris, RB from Wake Forest (we originally signed him back in July), to the active roster from our own PS and then signed LaDarius Perkins (Miss St) to the Practice squad. He'd been in camp with Green Bay for the preseason but got cut. He wasn't with anyone when signed to the Steelers PS.

Seems like we had the pieces for the makings of a pretty good four man DL. Unfortunately losing them.

Steelers sign DL Joe Kruger to practice squad

By Neal Coolong on Nov 24 2014

To replace the spot left by Nick Williams, the Steelers have signed DL Joe Kruger, the younger brother of Browns DL Paul Kruger.

The Steelers lost the 223rd pick of the 2013 NFL Draft when the Kansas City Chiefs signed defensive end Nick Williams off their practice squad Monday.

To replace him, they signed the 212th pick of that same draft, DL Joe Kruger.

Kruger, the seventh round pick of the Eagles that year, is the younger brother of Browns DE/OLB Paul Kruger. The Utah product spent time with the Eagles and Chargers, and most recently, the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay signed him in October.

Incidentally, Kruger's path through the NFL to this point has been very much like that of Williams'. Both missed the entire 2013 season with injuries, and both came back fully healthy into 2014, almost as if the Steelers and Eagles got an additional draft pick this year. Neither made their respective teams, but ended up on the practice squad - Williams on the Steelers and Kruger initially to Green Bay after being cut by Philadelphia and then San Diego.

Brandon Lee Gowton of SB Nation's Bleeding Green Nation suggested Kruger was a sleeper candidate to make the Eagles' roster this offseason.

Chiefs nabbing defensive lineman off Steelers practice squad

Posted by Darin Gantt on November 24, 2014

The Steelers practice squad is becoming the place to go for contenders looking for defensive line depth.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Chiefs are signing 2013 seventh-rounder Nick Williams away from the Steelers today.

The former Samford product spent last year on injured reserve, and was on the practice squad this season.

The Cardinals plucked Josh Mauro off the Steelers practice squad two weeks ago, and he played significant snaps for them in yesterday’s loss to the Seahawks.

Bruce Arians said that if they had won Josh Maruo. Receives the game ball. But at least we still have Landry. :@)

One arizona blog said Mauro looks like a brilliant pick up

Blew up several plays while posting a TFL and a ball batted down in 22 snaps. Pretty strong, imo

But guys like Jones and bw Webb are on our 53. Dumbfounding
