Your want to low ball or let a top tier QB go because the team finished 8-8? That's ridiculous If you want to save money at the QB position then be prepared to have a guy like a Ryan Fitzpatrick. The offense is a little inconsistent right now but we have a lot of young guys and they have shown what their capable of when they gel, chasing away Ben at this point would be ludicrous. By the way this season is not over and we still got a shot at the division and the playoffs.

And if Gilbert, Allen and Mitchell were not signed, there would be much hand wringing over "letting our young players go" or "not signing free agents"...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

I agree to a point. If this team is as bad as some here want to say then maybe we are just wasting the last good years of Ben. What happens if the HC/OC or both is dumped after this season? I can't see another coach or more different coaches turning this "bad" team into a super bowl team year one or even 2. How often does that happen in the NFL. I am just playing the crazy one here. IT would take the farm an then some to trade Ben. Just playing around here before the trolls can come out and push the same type of crap.Steelers 27

Ben's contract will be a fair one. Here is why .....if not Ben then who do you have and he is playing against us somewhere. Perhaps he gives us a home town discount and that would be a plus for us. Where is this team without him? That place is not good.
Mitchell launch imho was taking a chance on catching the Jets asleep. This is pro football so I'll leave it at that.
No reason to believe we will not get it together and get a much needed road win next week.Comment

i dont know anyone in his position who would . didnt brees hold out on signing it until he got a multi year deal from the saints. even though the franchise tag money is guaranteed, he could get double the guaranteed money in a signing bonus on a multi year dealLast edited by NJ-STEELER; 11-11-2014, 02:02 PM.Comment

let's look at the bright side here, if the Steelers make the playoffs we wouldn't have to play anyone with a sub-.500 record...Comment

Well I am a tad crazy. So Andy Reid really? Chip Kelly maybe. Still not sold on him yet. He could be the next great coach or not. We will see. Thanks for playing.Comment

The recipe for a championship team is quality defense and a franchise QB. That got us to three Super Bowls in the last decade, winning two of them.
If you have quality defense without a franchise QB, you'll be an average team (the defense keeps you in games, but your QB cannot get you over the top. Maybe you compete for a wild spot here or there, but it's more likely that you miss the playoffs).
If you have a franchise QB without a quality defense, you'll be an average team (this is where we have been for the last several years. Our franchise QB is the only reason that we have been a .500 level team and not a team that sucks out loud).
If you have neither a franchise QB nor a quality defense, you'll be a team that picks in the top 5 all the time (every time you try to draft a QB high and fail, that sets you back another few years; this is where we would be tomorrow without Ben).
If you have a franchise QB, you do not let him go. You pay what it takes to keep him, and you work on trying to rebuild a defense that lost Aaron Smith, Casey Hampton, James Farrior, Larry Foote, LaMarr Woodley, Ryan Clark, etc. and will soon be without a declining Troy Polamalu, Ike Taylor, James Harrison, Brett Keisel, etc.).Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

3 SB appearances in a decade is pretty impressive.Steelers 27

Yes sir 3yrs 50mil about 20.5mil guaranteed. But he just blew out his other knee yesterday. They are 8-1 and rolling with a good D. Have a few good players on O. Now it is up to Drew Stanton to get through the playoffs to a super bowl. Is Ben worth at least one super bowl for AZ? Heck maybe 2 or 3 depending on the contracts of the other star players. I am still laughing just writing this. But Ben does not have a contract after 2015 right. Oh crap I have to quit now.Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.Comment
