    A tuesday state of mind

Having had a day to digest another loss that "we should have won", I realize that all is not lost, but certainly getting close. I've been a Steeler fan since the days of Jock Sutherland and the single wing and will continue to be, but this year is the same as last and the same as the one before that.
Given all of the tumult that has surrounded the Jets in the past few weeks, I'm not really surprised that they pulled out a win. We again shot ourselves in the foot and could possibly do it again on Monday night against another team that desperately needs a win on national TV.
The thing that concerns me most of all is all of the love being shown to Big Ben. Am I missing something here?? People are throwing around telephone numbers ( read 25 mil ) for his new contract extension. I like Ben as well as the next guy, but someone please tell me how a guy on this way to his third straight 8-8 season can even be considered for that kind of money. We certainly need a lot of help whether it be in free agency or contract extensions ( if you can think of anyone who deserves one ) and a raise above his current 20 mil is unwaranted in my mind!
A franchise OB as he is purported to be does not lose games to the likes of Tampa Bay, Jax, and the dog ass Jets. A franchise QB puts the team on his back and wills it to win. Not happening here as far as I can see.
As the CEO of my company I understand if a key employee has one bad year, but after the third straight bad year I make a move. Whether it is Colbert, Tomlin, Haley, LeBeau or Ben, a business can't be run like this!
Signing off until mock draft season. One more thing: I think the boys ought to take Mike Mitchell out behind the barn to teach him about being a Steeler. Can you imagine the angst in the burg if someone did that to Ben???

You would let someone go AFTER you find a better replacement. That is a huge consideration for your scenario, even though I am NOT in favor of letting Ben go. He has put the team on his back, and he will again. Even the "better-than-God" Peyton Manning has laid eggs. It happens.

Ben is the reason the team is .500 over the past three years?

OK. I'm dying to hear who you think could have done better with this roster.

Part of me wishes they'd trade him so idiot fans such as yourself could live through another decade like the 80s.

Ben is the reason they REACHED .500 the past 3 years. Would the Steelers gotten there with Gradowski or Jones? I think not.

He had a bad game. Period. It happens once or twice a season, but he is also the reason they are usually in the hunt to the end.

as i've been saying for years, its the nature of the position.

if you pay attention to what is happening around the league you'll see the contracts QB like dalton, flACCO, kap, and cutler have signed recently

Why is the guy an idiot because he doesnt believe Ben, who is still signed through 2015, shouldnt be signed to a huge contract extension?

There would be quite a few teams dying to hand Ben 25Mil a year. Thats what his value is. The market for QBs is high. And to keep Ben, who is a top 5 QB in this league IMHO, that what the Steelers will have to pay. Im sure Ben will work with the Steelers to make a new deal as cap friendly as possible. Rooting for the Steelers to turn Ben loose is just silly. Statistically Ben is on pace to have his best season as a pro. Despite the Jets loss, I still think this is a playoff team. Lets see how this thing plays out before we start firing everybody.

So how many realistic draft picks would it take from old Bruce an Pittsburgh west to land Ben tomorrow? I know Ben is the man. But for how much longer? Guys on here want to scrap the HC, OC and DC. Along with Colbert I think. So why not get the farm for Ben and roll with Gradkowski? Then BLOW up the coaches soon as the season is over or let Munchak run as interm HC now. WOW that has me laughing so hard I have trouble typing it. How ridiculous is all that! Sounds like the Browns, Raiders and Redskins.

They just paid big $$ to Carson Palmer to stick around for a while, didn't they?

Yes sir 3yrs 50mil about 20.5mil guaranteed. But he just blew out his other knee yesterday. They are 8-1 and rolling with a good D. Have a few good players on O. Now it is up to Drew Stanton to get through the playoffs to a super bowl. Is Ben worth at least one super bowl for AZ? Heck maybe 2 or 3 depending on the contracts of the other star players. I am still laughing just writing this. But Ben does not have a contract after 2015 right. Oh crap I have to quit now.

yes, but we can always franchise tag Ben for another two years after that so theoretically we own Ben's rights for the next 3 years at a cost of approximately $60 millionish if Ben doesn't sign a long-term conract...

Yes I forgot about that. Thanks for the reminder sir. But I am just putting that crazy stuff out there for others to read and see how crazy it sounds to blow the team/coaches up. Even though I might just trade Ben for the right price. Got to think about the future Steelers right? How many on this board would be in on the trade Ben song if the Titans make the Steelers look stupid again? There are a few I think that will be singing away.

our best bet to win another Super Bowl within the next 3-4 years is with Ben, not without Ben...

I agree to a point. If this team is as bad as some here want to say then maybe we are just wasting the last good years of Ben. What happens if the HC/OC or both is dumped after this season? I can't see another coach or more different coaches turning this "bad" team into a super bowl team year one or even 2. How often does that happen in the NFL. I am just playing the crazy one here. IT would take the farm an then some to trade Ben. Just playing around here before the trolls can come out and push the same type of crap.

Are you nuts? A guy like Andy Reid or Chip Kelly would have this offense clicking from day one, not spending half of EVERY season trying to "find their identity".
