We need to have confidence we can get a yard or two in short yardage behind these guys MOST of the time if they are elite among their peers (NEVERMIND HOF).

I agree they have skills, but I don't like not being able to be confident that they can lead a 250 pound running back for a touchdown.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

I couldn't agree with you more, unfortunately, we're spoiled because the Steelers had Bettis for so long and if you gave it to him three times from the one yard line, he will eventually fall forward for the yard you need (at least he did it very, very often). I'm not sure if its the linemen, the backs or a mindset, but the Steelers aren't good at rushing the football for TDs.

I do wish there was more confidence in gaining a yard at the goal line.

I think they're both above average. Both guys can really move, but they aren't the most powerful OLinemen at the point of attack.

I think the reason we want them to be great was draft position. And rightfully so. Given where they were selected, they should be dominant.

I think drafting in general has hurt this team a little. Our first rounders with Cowher/Colbert were studs. From Ben to Heath to Casey and Troy and so on, we got premiere guys. But lately it seems like we're getting guys that are just adequate in the first round. Something changed dramatically in our drafting/talent evaluation post Cowher.

I'd love to know what's really different. But I think those string of 1st round picks where it seemed like we hit the lottery every year were why we were so consistently great for a stretch.

I'm not sure but you make it seem like he is the reason we can't score. Not sure how you can point to one man as the reason we did or didn't score a TD on the GL.

Maybe if we put Bell in instead of Blount and Harrison we would have scored?
why they take him out in that situation is mind boggling to me.

run pass option inside the 10 yard line. seems they want to appease blount (or the yinzers) too much

It's Football 101. Control the nose on both sides of the ball and a win is more likely than not. I don't think I have seen this happen consistently in the last 5 years.
Dawson lost his share of battles at the LOS. Strength was not a weakness, but it was not necessarily a strength for him. His was the first modern center because his mobility and athleticism was otherworldly at the time.
