It is very simplistic because it is that simple. The coaches have their roles. Coaches don't usually make that much of a difference unless their players are good enough and execute well enough.
If you sit down and watch film with the coaches they can explain and show the break downs made by the players. They can also show where they gave players one on one opportunities to win battles. I can point out many of the breakdowns. The game film doesn't lie. Players share a larger part of the responsibility because they play.
