I don't know that JH would be a great tutor, because he does what he does based on sheer will. I don't see him as a technician, or tactician who can impart his knowledge. He does it more by intensity and desire, and I don't know if you can teach that. I could be wrong, as we all know that he took himself out of a rush in the SB because he read pass to his zone, but I have always seen him as more of a "blood and guts" guy.

Work habits can rub off on young players too (a big reason why I didn't mind Ike returning at a discounted rate).
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

            by Jim Wexell

            * I asked one of the defensive players about Arthur Moats, the replacement at ROLB for Jarvis Jones. "He knows everything," the player said. "You'll see. You'll be surprised." And to punctuate it with honesty, the player said, "Don't quote me on that."

            * So I walked up to Moats, who's always in a good mood, and said, "Is it possible that an NFL team would play a younger player only because he's a high draft pick and they wanted him to develop? And is it possible in the NFL that a backup might actually be better than that starter?" Moats smiled and I added, "I'm just speaking hypothetically, of course." So Moats began to answer the question like someone had just told him a joke in church and he was trying not to laugh. And you know how that only makes you want to laugh louder. "I don't even look at it like that," he said while suppressing a giggle. "Those decisions come from above my pay grade. All I know is when my number's called I just try to make sure I produce."

            * Not that I'm down on Jarvis Jones. I am liking the improvement he's making this year. I just think that today the team will perform better with Moats in there.

Steelers' OLB Jarvis Jones staying positive while injured

By Dale Grdnic on Oct 1 2014

The Pittsburgh Steelers saw three defensive starters lost due to injury, and one of those was OLB Jarvis Jones. Jones had wrist surgery and will likely be out till late November, but he won't let that get him down.

PITTSBURGH -- For those wondering how well Jarvis Jones is progressing, one just had to see him standing on the Pittsburgh Steelers sideline Sunday waving a Terrible Towel and cheering for his teammates.

"It's a good thing I'm left-handed,'' Jones said Wednesday. "So, I didn't have any problem waving the Towel.''

Jones, the Steelers' No. 1 pick in 2013, suffered a right wrist injury during the club's blowout win Sept. 21 at Carolina. He had surgery to repair the damage and was placed on injured reserve-designated for return. If the Steelers reactivate him, Jones is eligible to return against New Orleans Sunday, Nov. 30, at Heinz Field.

"I'm doing all right, as well as can be expected,'' Jones said. "The injury rate in the NFL is 100 percent, so (stuff) happens. You can't dwell on that or be angry. I guess you can, but it won't help anything. I just have to work hard to be ready when I'm allowed to come back.''

In three starts at right outside linebacker and basically two-and-a-half games, Jones tallied 13 total tackles, including 11 solo, two sacks, a quarterback pressure and a forced fumble. After an inconsistent rookie year when he started eight of 14 games, recorded just one sack, no takeaways and appeared to be lost more often than not, Jones was starting to make plays for the Steelers.

"I think things were going pretty well, but I'm trying not to dwell on that,'' Jones said. "I just want to get healthy and get back on the field.''

Jones has been replaced in the starting lineup by fifth-year pro Arthur Moats, but veteran James Harrison was coaxed out of retirement to share time at his old outside linebacker spot as well.

For those of you out there that have played football past the 9th grade does it take an adjustment form a player playing on the side of the field that is not his dominant handedness? That is, Jones is left handed, is it more difficult or have no difference for him playing ROLB? Just curious.

                  I didnt think so

Max starks was definitely better on the left as a left hander than he ever was on the right....so i guess that could be a case

Being a left hander I know that most are very sufficient using their right hand also so I don't think it would matter.
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

                    but Go Steelers!!!

I'm left handed as well. I bat right handed and my handle with a basketball is much better with my right hand.

This world is set up for right handers so we must adapt.

Here I was about to give you a left-handed compliment, but I'm not sure I can do that now.

My son golfs lefty and plays hockey lefty, but throws righty and writes righty. Go figure.

One other thing that I saw last year at a minor league baseball game for the first time ever. Switch hitters are somewhat prevalent in baseball, but I witnessed my first ever switch pitcher. He was a closer and wore a glove that he could somehow wear on either hand. I was trying to figure it out...looked really weird. When the batter stepped into the batter's box on the left side, he'd put the glove on his right hand and throw lefty. When the batter stepped into the batter's box on the right side, he'd put the glove on his left hand and throw righty. Really odd stuff.

Yeah, Max Starks immediately came to mind as I heard it said many times that he was more comfortable on the left because he is left handed. I have never heard that about any other players though.

I bet Mike Tomlin signed that cast (since he's a player's coach and all).
