Rats got flagged. Don't know about the fine. But I'm sure that even with a fine+flag, the Rats would feel like the brutal hit was well worth it. They won the game and put the opposing QB in pain. What's not to like?

If we still had James Harrison - a guy who could actually get to and hit the QB - and he tagged Flaccid like that, I think we'd all be quite satisfied with it, regardless if it drew a flag and a fine.

Absolutely. That hit may very well have won the Ravens that game. I was thinking as I watched that Ben did not look right after that, and the hit was the reason why. If I'm a teammate of Upshaw, I will gladly dip my hand into my pocket to help pay a share of any fine.

The Ravens got flagged, too. I didn't see what was illegal about the hit, personally, other than it was hard and viscous, but that shouldn't make it illegal in itself. It wasn't late, it wasn't to the head, it wasn't with the crown of the helmet, it wasn't low, it wasn't a horse collar...it was to the middle of the chest and not late. Why was a flag thrown?

It was to the middle of the chest and not late, but it was with the crown of the helmet. That rule is in place to protect the defender from injuring himself as much as it is from injuring the player he's hitting. It agree with the flag, but I don't think it's fine worthy necessarily.
