Are you comfortable with a head coach and DC who get "rattled" during games? I'm not. If you don't think at least PART of the problem is coaching, I don't know what to tell you. I thought, when they showed Tomlin and LaBeue on the sidelines, they looked like deer in headlights, and I was right. They flat out admitted it. Should guys approaching 80-years-old be in a major position, running half of a billion dollar entity? History says no. This will be 3 years in a row that the D is not up to snuff. And our coached are "rattled" on the sidelines. Guess what? You don't make adjustments when you are "rattled" - all you do is panic with indecision, which is what they did. Ben saved us again. How many games will Ben have to try to save us while our coaches are "rattled" on the sidelines? Are we going to be "rattled" tomorrow night in Balt?
You have no clue as to what you are rambling about. I know someone who is eighty-plus years old and STILL is CEO and Chairman of the Board in a multi-billion $ company right here in PA. And he's buds with the soon to be new Governor of PA too........LeBeau is MORE THAN CAPABLE of running our defense. Get a life.

Oh and as long as we go to 2-0, I don't give a rat's ars who is 'rattled'. lol

Don't you guys remember the thread started during the Indy-Broncos game about how Tomlin & Co had to watch a 'real coach' to see 'how it was done'?

I'm sure Tomlin & Co went and watched Busty Fox & learned how to blow opponants away as they were instructed to do by the enlightened ones of this board.

No more problems. The Steelers will follow in the footsteps of the Broncos & really put the foot to the throat from now on.

Tomlin's a smart guy. I'm sure he'll even mimmick Busty's facial expressions from now on so he doesn't resemble Bambi on the sideline. He might even hold classes for the rest of the coaches who clearly stand around all afternoon with inane looks of fear & bewilderment every time an opponant completes a First Down.

Because, you know- in the first half, the Cleveland Do Co-Ordinator looked cool as a cucumber, clearly knowing that he had the measure of the Steelers offense.

Only the Steelers coaching staff are this bad. It's why they always get the 1st pick of the NFL draft every year.

      Right on...nuff said, Chadman.....

Does it even matter whether it was just the players who were rattled or the coaches were too?

We came out with a W.

If the game results in any improvement in the plans/attitude/response of our D, it was worth it. If the entire game had gone like the first half, they may have rolled into Balt less prepared than they should be, otherwise.

In the big picture, it was probably entirely worth the lessons learned.

I figure that LeBeau started playing organized football in junior high, then high school, then college, then the NFL, then coaching in the NFL. That adds up to about 65 years and probably 900 or a thousand games. I doubt there's anything he hasn't seen, and I suspect he's seen a lot of furious comebacks by teams that fell behind early. The idea that he would be "rattled" is a bit much. I've seen a lot of come-from-behind games myself. When an avalanche starts rolling, you can't always just flip a switch and stop it with an "adjustment". If you could, nobody would ever lose a big lead. Sometimes you just hang on.

LeBeau said yesterday that the call were too long and they couldn't get them in quick enough which led to the confusion and likely players being out of position and not properly executing. He said they were making them shorter and more brief so that they can get them in faster in anticipation of the Ravens doing no-huddle. My question is why wouldn't you keep them short and sweet to begin with.

My thought exactly. I swear these NFL coaches make play calls insanely long to feed their own ego. "Well coach L must be a genius. Did you see how long his play calls are? Only a genius could make plays that long."

I highly doubt LeBeau himself was 'rattled' at any point in that game.
I've managed whole buildings of people. He didn't need to say that quote at all to know the COACHES were rattled. All you had to do was LOOK at them and you knew they were rattled. Do your eyes work?

Ovi, I didn't see the article you read. I assume that when they send in defensive calls, they include what they think is essential. I doubt they're dropping in tidbits about the weather or politics. So if they can shorten them without omitting important things, then they need to do it. Did LeBeau get into specifics about how many split-seconds or seconds they can save? Also, if the opposing QB is winging it, ad-libbing, whatever, does the D have time to change the first call? Maybe Timmons is not the right guy for the "communications" job? We'll soon know more.

A few years ago, when Rodriguez was running the no-huddle hurry-up at WVU, they got off plays at a pretty rapid clip. The opposing defense would get gassed and disorganized. Then they would fake an injury. Maybe that's another "adjustment" we could make?
