Don't see how McCullers doesn't make this team.

Jarvis Jones - If he didn't start the game (pregame graphics showed he did not), he took notice. Jones was a different player in this game. Physical, aggressive and working in great concert with defensive end Brett Keisel, Jones got pressure on multiple plays and was a force against the run.

He started and played really well. Made plays in the backfield, got penetration to disrupt plays, blew up the play that allowed Keisel to hit the QB, held the point of attack vs the run, and made the big play on the bad snap to recover the fumble. Well done.

Jones is Digest Player of the Week

Bob Labriola
Steelers.com

Jarvis Jones' fumble recovery was the highlight of the Steelers' preseason finaleJ

It was a night when the Steelers’ offense wasn’t able either to sustain any drives or make any big plays, a night when the defense didn’t have a sack or an interception, a night when special teams finished with 2 yards on punt returns and 35 yards on kickoff returns, a night when the Steelers were shut out by Carolina, 10-0, their first goose egg in a preseason game since 1992’s 26-0 defeat in New Orleans.

It was also a night when Jarvis Jones’ fumble recovery was the highlight of the night for the Steelers, and because of that Jones is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

In addition to his fumble recovery, which came when Carolina quarterback Derek Anderson couldn’t corral a shotgun snap, Jones also made three tackles, including one for loss.

Also considered were: Shamarko Thomas, who had six tackles, including one for loss; Darrius Heyward-Bey, who led the team with six catches for 44 yards; Josh Harris, who led the team with 41 yards on six carries, including a 31-yard burst that was the Steelers’ longest gain of the night; and punter Brad Wing, who punted nine times for a 40.1 gross average, a 39.6 net average, and three inside the 20-yard line.

Hope last night is the start of a trend for JJ. His hustle was clear for everyone to see and he looked a bit quicker than I've seen him. I think he'll be alright once he gets the mental part of this D down.

When a head case punter is in the running for player of the week you know it wasn't a good week.

3 tackles, zero sacks, zero hits on the QB. Sorry if I don't see anything to write home about. Still didn't move anyone any where. Just too weak at the point of attack. Still has spaghetti arms - no muscle mass or definition. If that's all our ROLB has to offer, expect another 8-8 kind of season.
