Agreed. Having watched Heyward his entire career my take on him was that he was a game changer if he could ever be consistent. In college, he had games of absolute domination...see tOSU vs Arkansas. I struggled with Heyward his senior year until I actually started watching the film...he was being doubled many games. Other teams were focused on neutralizing him. And Heyward didn't step in and show much. He had flashes here and there. Many were calling him a bust as well. That is why I am willing to reserve judgment on JJ.

I have been a big time hater of Jason Worilds, but he was one of the bright spots on the defense against the eagles....Worilds and Timmons looked like they knew what they were doingThe articles are out there. I'm not your personal internet librarian. I'm simply stating that they are out there and you could find it easily if you wanted to do some research.
I don't get the hate on the guy personally.
Heyward did nothing his rookie year and very little his 2nd year.
Timmons (a higher pick) did nothing his rookie year and took the majority of his rookie contract to develop into an every down ILB
JJ performs better than both of these guys his rookie year (although struggled at times) and he's somehow a bust after 1 year. Maybe it's because people had huge expectations. I don't know.
JJ played no worse than Jason Worilds last game. Worilds had a terrible game IMO. Jones had a QB hit where he beat Peters (one of the best LTs in the game) and missed out on the sack by a split second. He held his own in run defense on his side... better than last year. The Eagles have a solid o-line and Foles has a quick delivery. Overall, they dominated the Steelers D. People are just taking every opportunity to bash the guy for some reason. It's the latest Steelers message board and blog trend I guess.
There is definitely some improvements I'd like to see from Jones. With that being said, I'm much more concerned about our poor rush defense, McClendon, and our entire pass defense.Comment

Timmons looked good. I thought Worilds played horrible. I find it funny that people are knocking JJ for the McCoy TD when he came from the opposite side of the field and was cut blocked right before he reached McCoy. Where was Worilds on that play? It was his side. His play recognition on that 27 yard screen was beyond horrendous. What about the McCoy carry where the right side of the defense was well played by Jones and should have been a loss but Worilds got sucked in and McCoy reversed the field for 13 yards. Yea... Worilds had a stellar game.Tomlin: Let's unleash hell and "mop the floor" with the competition.Comment

That is all that I have been asking and some try to spin that into "hate" or "hurt feelings" over another player not being taken. My question about Jones is the following (and I liked the pick): Can he accomplish anything on his own? Or, will he need a Pro-Bowl DE in front of him. It just seemed that he was incapable of winning his matchup on Thursday. Now, the Eagle LT might be an All-pro I have no idea, but Jones certainly wasn't able to shed him, run around him or force him into a mistake. I hope it's an anomaly what I saw Thursday, only time will tell.
Truthfully, the Bills offense didn't do bad against the defense, but the defense made some big plays and they made zero big plays against the Eagles, save for Polamalu's interception which the inept offense quickly turned into a 3 and field goal attempt.

The reality is thus far Jones has appeared to be overmatched. That need to change this season or our defense will get destroyed waiting for a gradual and casual develop period."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

Eifert probably can't play OLB, but pretty certain he is grading out higher as a TE in the NFL than Jones is as an OLB.
Still not sure however why you continually want to spin this into a mock draft debate and refuse to focus on the performance of Jones on the field. Nevermind, given what he has done I do understand your need for a stalking horse."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

We get it. You love Eifert. We should migrate to a 4-3. Lebeau can't coach anymore. Jarvis Jones is a bust.Eifert probably can't play OLB, but pretty certain he is grading out higher as a TE in the NFL than Jones is as an OLB.

And we all get you love Jones, however once again let's redirect and ignore an honest assessment of Jones' on field performance. Make it about everything except him. Gotta admit, the he will be bad because of old Kiesel rationale is already starting."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

How many times did Harrison get to Brady or any QB when they spread our D out? If JJ struggles in our first few games vs division rivals then sure, it makes sense to worry about his development. However, I don't think we can ask "where is JJ" if we play teams who spread us out and dink and dunk in the flats. My question about Jones is the following (and I liked the pick): Can he accomplish anything on his own? edit: by no means do I think JJ is on Harrison's level but JH struggled with the spread option and couldn't get to QB's when they spread us out.Last edited by feltdizz; 08-25-2014, 01:19 PM.Steelers 27

How good was Cam after one year? JJ has talent. How long did it take Worilds to start producing? You want what you want...and you want it NOW! JJ hasn't played well...and may very well turn out to be a bust. But, considering him having some actual talent and production in his history...I'm willing to give him as much time as we did Worilds and Heyward.Trolls are people too.Comment

See I don't get the Worilds hate, he had performed when he was in the lineup. JJ not so much and to say Worilds played bad against Philly is showing some are blind or didn't watch the game. Matter of fact I think he graded by PFF as the best defender. And it's an article on Steelers D about how well he performed.http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2...eelers2010.jpgComment

Worilds was useless for 3 years, and bordeline useless for another 1.5 years after that. he came on strong last season but the reason theres hate for him is he was terirble and just started shwoing any potential for the last 8 game last season. Prior to that every one of his sacks was unblocked straight line. If you believe a sack is a sack then i guess you would be fine with that. I dont, because its not.See I don't get the Worilds hate, he had performed when he was in the lineup. But I agree, Worilds played great against philly...he and timmons were the 2 players that didnt look lost and scaredComment

He was useless because two Pro Bowlers was ahead of him, but I recall JJ practically given the job ahead of him and he still performed him.http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2...eelers2010.jpgComment

Excuses can be made for both players...but overall i dont think Jones is getting a fair shake.
The pro bowlers excuse is classic....he still played, and I did not see him beat his man until last year. Not even once did he win a matchup prior to last season, not with his VT fast track-enhanced speed, not with his underwhelming strength, and not with anything that resembled a pass rushing move. He was constantly gobbled up by blockers, he was essentially a bigger chris carter for most of his tenure here.
Jones may have been "handed" the starting job last year, but Worilds didnt beat him out for it either. jones showed good things in OTAs, practice, camp, preseason...enough to win the job, but he was noticably struggling with assignments and reacting during real games...that goes away with time (hopefully this year)
Worilds has improved greatly, ill be the first to admit it....and not saying jones should be given another 4 years, but he should be given SOME time, and maybe more than a total of 3 quarters of preseason playComment

18 sacks for his career is useless lol okayhttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2...eelers2010.jpgComment
