Point being.... Jarvis Jones is a bust after 1 year but Timmons got a free pass for 4 years. How about a little consistency.

JJ was picked #17 overall compared to Timmons #15 overall pick. Which one was more of a reach? Clearly Timmons.
Timmons didn't get a free pass. Fans like you have been on his azzz since day one and haven't let up regardless of his production. There was one year where he was bashed on this site and Lebeau said it was his best year because he played multiple positions at a high level. Not the ALL PRO highlight reel level fans need to prove a guy is good but the high level Steeler coaches value.

Frankly, I don't care if they fill it in the draft, or via free agency, but, they need a guy tha's 325+ lbs that consumes blockers. If a 22 year old Casey Hampton was in this draft and available at #15, I'd take him, no hesitation, above any other position, regardless of what the draftniks say - his value to the team is that significant.

Assuming Nix is of that mold, and the only NT ready to play on day 1 (which i've read in several places), he's my pick. Because not only does he make the NT position better, but, he makes the LBs better. And when the LBs are better, we get in 3rd and long. And when we get in 3rd and long, we can blitz. And when we can blitz, LeBeau makes magic happen. "Don't prevent LeBeau from making magic happen - take Nix in the 1st."
Pure comedy gold right there SOD, excellent reference to a TV commercial.

Deville... I been on the Nix wagon since day 1. Most important position in a 3-4 is the NT and people want to find some late rounder...smh. Get Nix early and solidify the position for 10 years. The reason you see Revis, Cromartie, Talib...and other CB's on the block is because you don't need to pay that much for a CB. Get solid up front and watch the DB's play better because they don't have to cover as long.

          • This is from a Kaboly tweet the other day:

Since signing deal in 2011, Lawrence Timmons played 99 percent of snaps including 1,688 consecutive. Woodley missed 14 games and parts of 6 others since signing 6-year $61.5 million deal in 2011

Add consistency to the list of qualities that often get overlooked when discussing Timmons.

I agree that the front gets better and the back gets better, but NT is not the most important anymore with the implementation of zone stretches. Its negates having a NT. 2 Boss DEs is WAY more effective than a NT unless they are dontari poe.

Texans and Niners dont have that stud NT and run a base 34, yes they are more one gapping systems (especially wade phillips texans) but having 2 DEs that can not only stack and shed blockers but rush the passer and collapse the pocket makes the OLBs exponentially better.

I like Nix, but I could also really like Kerr....they are not that different as players. Fangupu could be a guy to turn the corner too

Nix is going to be a Poe like NT.

I see flashes of that, but hes not even close to being the type of overall athlete as poe. Ive compared him favorably to poe and wilfork before, as prospects though

Right now hes a top 40 prospect with a balky knee, and high ceiling and decent floor at a position that doesnt hold much value in the 2014 NFL, at least not the kind it did in the 2000 NFL

Yep. That's how I see it too. He isn't worth the #15
