What a horrible, risky pick... he was the most dominant OLB in college football in the best conference in college football.

He was lacking strength last year and that isn't a secret. That was known on draft day. That is the easiest problem to fix. The guy is going make a lot of people on this board look really ignorant in the future.
I guess that is my thinking as well. As long as he can get stronger, he should be fine. I'm thinking he will be a solid starter this year with the occasional explosive play, but really take off in year 3.

we are a spoiled bunch... LOL. I think JJ is going to turn the corner this year as well. He didn't make an impact but he got tons of reps and that will work to his advantage next year.

It is funny how fans always expect excellence from the start, and believe that the player that they see day one is the same player that they develop into. If that was the case then we would have no reason to have any coaches other than the HC, OC, and DC.

Kind of like Heyward who is probably the best player on the D. Took him 3 years of getting stronger and smarter before he broke out. JJ will be the same. I suspect he will have a much better year but I don't expect him to be a star next season.

Timmons is the best player on the defense by far and has been for a couple years.

You may be correct. But, I'll tell you I would put Heyward up against just about any 3-4 DE in the league.

People will realize this come this year....hes the best DE that no one knows about.

Which is why i would love Hageman, very quietly, it wouldnt be a popular pick but they would treat people badly

Overrated - any OSU player, j/k kinda...
Underrated- Jordan Matthews, doesn't seem to get the 1st rnd grades, but the draft is WR deep
Dark Horse - Carr or Garoppolo, I wonder if one of these two will have better careers than the top three.
Faller - If Manziel doesn't go in the top 8 or 9, I could see him fall to the 20s
                    1. C.J. Mosley LB Alabama
                    2. Jordan Matthews WR Vanderbilt
                    3. (comp) Philip Gaines CB Rice
                    4. Arthur Lynch TE Georgia
                    5. Ross Cockrell CB Duke
                    5. (comp) Derrick Hopkins DT Virginia Tech
                    6. Josh Mauro DE Stanford
                    6. (comp) Shaquil Barrett OLB Colorado State
                    7. Quincy Enunwa WR Nebraska

Hageman would be popular with me and definitely far more popular than burning #15 on Nix. I'd rather have Stephon Tuitt instead of Nix too.

i think nix provides extremely strong value in the second round. Tuitt has been a guy I have always liked, not sure at 15 though, would MUCH rather take Hagemans upside

lol.... funny you should bring up Timmons. The guy that took almost his entire rookie contract (5 years / 15 million) to develop into a ILB. He signed a new deal the year before that one ended worth 50 mil.

Point being.... Jarvis Jones is a bust after 1 year but Timmons got a free pass for 4 years. How about a little consistency.

JJ was picked #17 overall compared to Timmons #15 overall pick. Which one was more of a reach? Clearly Timmons.

Timmons was a solid player earlier than many on this board give him credit for being. He has been our most complete linebacker for over three years and is asked to do more than any other LB on the team.

I've been on the Nix bandwagon for one reason. IMO, NT is the single biggest need on defense. The 34 defense works because of a stout defensive line that has an NT that requires a double-team. If you don't have that guy, you just freed up an extra blocker. THAT changes the whole defensive dynamic and requires you to bring Polamalu in the box.

Frankly, I don't care if they fill it in the draft, or via free agency, but, they need a guy tha's 325+ lbs that consumes blockers. If a 22 year old Casey Hampton was in this draft and available at #15, I'd take him, no hesitation, above any other position, regardless of what the draftniks say - his value to the team is that significant.

Assuming Nix is of that mold, and the only NT ready to play on day 1 (which i've read in several places), he's my pick. Because not only does he make the NT position better, but, he makes the LBs better. And when the LBs are better, we get in 3rd and long. And when we get in 3rd and long, we can blitz. And when we can blitz, LeBeau makes magic happen. "Don't prevent LeBeau from making magic happen - take Nix in the 1st."
