How do you know it's inaccurate? Huh? That is just as unjustified - or more so - than saying he is gay. Did you bang some chicks with him? So how do you know? You don't, at all - not even in the slightest. Oh, and in case you missed it or have problem with reading and comprehension, I went out of my way to say not everyone with his characteristics are gay. I guess you missed that part....for some odd reason.Comment

I really don't care. But a large % of people in Pgh feel he is definitely gay. If you don't know this, you haven't spoke to anyone in da Burgh in a long time. His own teammates say it was really weird to go over his place; he'd make everyone take off their shoes and want to talk about his new curtains, etc.Comment

Set for life? Let's not go quite that far just yet. But I agree the decision to come out now was a calculated decision to potentially get him drafted earlier and in position to make more $. But that doesn't mean the plan will succeed. He could get drafted, be too much a tweener, and make a few speeches here and there for a few bucks, but he isn't necessarily set for life. He might end up selling insurance.
"His true marketing potential isn't to gay people," Witeck said. "His true marketing potential will be reached by selling to consumers who appreciate him because of his individuality. These companies are looking to build new stories and Michael stands out."Steelers 27

She was begging and pleading to stay married to Kordell but as soon as the divorce was final she started using the gay angle. A woman scorned can't be trusted when it comes to divorce.Steelers 27

my wife watched this show... the woman also thought the underground railroad had a train with tracks to lead them from slavery.

It is interesting the passive-aggressive way people couch their remarks, because they basically don't want a gay guy to be a player on the team they cheer for... and I don't think it is as much the "media circus" thing as it is the gay guy thing. On some level, they don't want the gay factor (they don't want their friends to razz them about him, etc.)
Because if wasn't gay, and you were told we could couple last year's SEC DPOY with this year's SEC DPOY by parting with a 4th, people here would be jumping for absolute JOY! Heck, we had people praising that ACC ham & egger Vince Williams as some bright prospect, after the draft. People were HAPPY to see that... but a guy like Sam? No, he's not worthy.
Don't get me wrong, I am sure that many here are finding whatever reason they can think of to avoid having a gay player on their favorite team, but many have a football based explanation, and there are those people who will turn it into a sexuality issue regardless.
Let me put another thought on what you had said earlier. Had he not come out, and the Steelers passed on him in the fourth, there would be no greater reaction than there normally is on draft day. Now, if they were to pass on him, it would become a huge ordeal, and the entire organization will be branded as homophobes by those who choose to center everything on his sexuality.Comment

At 6'2 / 255 he's too short and small to be an NFL DE. He would best work as a 3-4 OLB. The issue is it's been widely reported that he struggled mightily at that position, with his hand off the ground, during Senior Bowl practices. It was not something that appeared to be a natural fit.
NFLDraftscout.com has him as the 110th overall prospect. 4th round. The question becomes - should the Steelers take a guy in the 4th who is guaranteed to be changing positions and has so far shown to be not adjusting well to the switch. Is it worth it to take a guy who almost certainly adds nothing but special teams play for the first season or two?
If coaches Butler and Porter see something in the kid and think they can accelerate the transition, then maybe he is worth a 4th or 5th round pick. If not, then everything else is a moot point.
Right on the money. He is a marginal talent right now and the last thing that we need is yet another LeBeau transition project to OLB, let alone one who would have an hour long press conference everyday at training camp to deal with the media crush or have his teammates be forced to answer endless questions about how they feel about this guy being on their team. This would be a huge distraction as many have rightfully identified.
Could care less what label this guy has, but I wouldn't touch him because of the non-football extras that would come with the pick"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

I think this is what is meant when people are worried about the distraction of having him on the team, potentially cutting him etc. If anybody states that "we should have drafted that WR instead of him in the fourth" it is gay bashing. If he has 100 media following him everywhere, and asking the entire locker room again and again how they feel about having a gay guy in the room with them, if somebody calls that a distraction, then that is gay bashing. If he is in camp and a visitor reports that "Sam did not look good today in camp" then it is gay bashing. If he gets cut, then it is gay bashing. There will be those who will start a controversy if things don't go his way.

I'm still not sure of how good this kid really is. But there's often some value in buying when everyone else is selling.sigpicComment

Judge him on his merits as a football player and his character...if those things enable him to be a professional football player, then great...if not, then too bad...
You have to take sexual orientation out of the equation or nothing will ever change...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment
