Dont give up on Levi Brown just yet....

    (LT)Matthews--(LG)Foster--(C)DeCastro--(RG)Brown--(RT)Beachum

Can see how a tam could run behind that.

And Brown is perfect for playing inside. His strength is run blocking.

So what's this mean in terms of the conditional picks we traded for him? Did we just give away a 7th rd pick for nothing?

Cardinals will receive no compensation from Pittsburgh Steelers in Levi Brown trade

The Steelers placed tackle Levi Brown on injured reserve on Tuesday, which means the Cardinals will receive no compensation in the trade that sent Brown to Pittsburgh.

The trade involved draft picks conditional on Brown’s health and presence on the Steelers roster.

Brown suffered a triceps injury last Sunday while warming up to play his first game for the Steelers.

According to NFL rules, when a team trades a player who spent the previous year on injured reserve, as Brown did, the player must be on his new team’s active roster for five weeks.

Brown didn’t meet those terms so the Steelers don’t owe the Cardinals the conditional pick.

The Cardinals did, however, take the first step in shedding themselves of Brown’s contract, which they had planned to do after the season.

To make the trade work, the Cardinals restructured Brown’s contract, paying him $3.085 million in signing bonus. The Cardinals lowered Brown’s salary cap number for 2013 by almost $3 million.

They will, however, take a $6.5 million cap charge for Brown in 2014. But they won’t owe him any more cash.

Brown was due to make $6 million next season.

We should just play EVERYONE out of position and GET RID of all the good players we have! That'd be great.

I know it's crazy talk, but how about bringing in a real left tackle, one who isn't a cast off from another team, one who hasn't played for and been cut 4 or 5 times, or maybe one who hasn't lost two seasons to an injury to his arm that is integral to his position. Or maybe the key to the line are guys like Wallace (hasn't dressed for 5 games) or Whimper (Mr. Below the line)...

I really hope we draft a quality LT in the first round of next year's draft, someone like Jake Matthews or Taylor Lewan would look great in the Black & Gold.

what pedigree? Being a high draft pick is his only pedigree.

                      the guy can't stay healthy.

get rid of him and go with someone who might actually play.

Dee, just out of curiosity why do you think DeCastro would make a good center? Has he ever played the position before?
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

DeCastro is starting to sound like Jeff Hartings, who really was a major contributor in the last decade.

I was going to ask if Levi had any background playing guard, but I did not know he was back on IR. IR 2 years in a row. Forget it. Look elsewhere.

Unless he gets stronger I just dont see him staying a guard. When I watch him I see him getting pushed back consistently from many of the leagues DT's. I think he could benefit from not having a man directly over him more times than not. I had brought up the comparison of Jeff Hastings before. He too was once a guard and became an even better center. I think DeCastro has good lateral movement, he's smart, could handle the line protection calls, and would be above average at getting out in front and pulling like how the Steelers used Dermonti Dawson.

Personally I dont think Levi Brown should have ever played tackle. He is far better suited inside at guard. His strength is run blocking not pass blocking. And in case some of you dont know he is one of the better run blockers in the league (when healthy).
