Tight ends are tearing it up in the league the first few weeks. Having two strong TEs creates tremendous matchup problems for the defense because they need to either use their premier LB or a safety to cover. Obviously, this opens up other offensive opportunities. But NE set the tone a year ago with their tandem TEs and teams that have adopted it are showing the advantage on offense. When is the last time we saw two TEs in the top 10 in receiving yards?

...or fumble when they do...Originally posted by CaptainLemmingsLemmingThey erred because they don't have the TE's who can run, but they continue to use them.
We don't the hybrid's. We have slow, plodding, traditional TEs who can't exploit matchups.Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

Nah, I just know that all offseason, plans were made with him being the #1 TE when Heath was out and #2 TE when Heath came back...Originally posted by CaptainLemmingsLemmingYeah Matt Spaeth. They obviously made a mistake taking Jarvis Jones with our first round picks, since we all know that the ol' curmudgeon Dick LeBeau refuses to give rookies and meaningful playing ti...never mind.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

Spaeth can catch... can't block worth a damnOriginally posted by CaptainLemmingsLemmingThen your plan sucks.
Spaeth can't catch a cold. If he was going to replace Heath Miller and they were hoping for 2012 Miller production out of him? Then this team is in even BIGGER trouble than we all realize.Steelers 27

yeah... not sure why we refuse to keep a great rookie on the field. Jarvis has impressed in limited action... he should have been starting on day one.Originally posted by CaptainLemmingsLemmingAnd what's happened? THREE TIMES Jones has been removed from a series for Worilds, and THREE TIMES the opposition has stuck the ball in the end zone with Jones standing on the sidelines.
Now don't you feel stupid? You should.
Yeah that LeBeau, he's a genius, just ask him.Steelers 27

This is the key point. If you go look at the 1st and 2nd rounds (occasionally 3rd) of the draft going back many years; it's unbelievable the lack of true play makers taken. It's as if the front office wanted to see how mediocre they could become. And average would be a step up. The Steelers have too many back-ups in starting roles because that's all they have.
They need to find a way to get out of cap jail and realize that using free agency here and there is an acceptable way to build a team. Their drafting isn't cutting it (although, if Bell is a player, this year may have the first 2 rounds be really good).sigpicComment

If you live by the draft, then you can't miss in the draft, 2008 and 2009 might as well have not even happened, we have two players out of 16 on the roster Hood and Johnson. In 2010 we got two players Pouncey and Brown, then Worilds, Dwyer and Sanders who are certainly backups on most teams. In 2011 you have Heyward, Gilbert and Brown (Curtis) probably backups on most teams and Allen in the 4th, the jury is out but he looks like a player. This is the key point. Can't replenish your team with drafts like that, if you use the draft to the extent that the Steelers do.

Right on the mark. The 2008 and 2009 drafts killed us. It forced us to react. Imagine if Sweed, Bruce Davis and Tony Hills had worked out from the 2008 draft. Imagine if we didn't blow it and give up too early on Urbik from the 2009 draft. That would had been two additional players on the OL for starters or depth and could have freed up 2010, 11 and 12 picks to add depth to other areas like Safety who could have replaced Clark by now or a top notch TE to work with Heath. If you live by the draft, then you can't miss in the draft, 2008 and 2009 might as well have not even happened, we have two players out of 16 on the roster Hood and Johnson.
