I respect the Patriot's organization. They have a good eye for talent and that is why they stay in he playoffs despites a lot of turnover in their personnel. Sanders is a good, under-the radar- type of player. I thnik he is about ready to blossom, if he can stay healthy. So, I hope the Steelers don't lose him.Comment

I would prefer to keep Sanders but under the circumstances their might not be too much the Steelers can do to prevent it since they are strapped with the cap.
Instead of worrying about this and how it affects the offense maybe we can try and find some positives, here is a few of mine.
1.Even if we were to keep Sanders with the tender we offered, he most likely would demand more next year especially if he has a good year. By doing this now we will save the tender we would of gave him and won't be hit as hard next year with the cap.
2. We still have Brown and two experienced receivers Plax and Cotchery and a extra pick in the draft this year, NE's third round pick.
3. Most likely we were going to draft a receiver before this happened the only difference is what round, now we may have to move up to round one or two at worst to get one capable of playing his first season.
4. The WR we draft will be more cap friendly now and next season, giving the Steelers more room to address some other needs.
Maybe some of you can come up with some positives, dwelling on any disappointments we may have won't do any good. The Steelers are changing as a team, and more changes are bound to happen next year as well, so we might want to embrace the change and hopefully these changes will be better in the long run.
It may take a few drafts to be a playoff team again, or that fine line we talk about might go our way this year. In any case some players we draft could speed up the process especially getting playing time this year.sigpicComment

Not so fast on Emmanuel Sanders to New England

When we passed along the report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette saying Emmanuel Sanders had signed an offer sheet with the Patriots, we noted that there was no information about the terms of Sanders’ offer sheet, and that no other media outlets had confirmed the report.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there’s a good reason for that: Sanders hasn’t actually signed an offer sheet with the Patriots. The Observer-Reporter also reported that Sanders left New England without signing.
The Patriots are still considering whether to make an offer to Sanders, which would require them to give the Steelers their third-round draft pick if they didn’t match the offer and allowed Sanders to go.
The Patriots have more cap space than the Steelers this season, so it wouldn’t be hard for New England to structure the contract in a way that makes for a big cap hit in 2013, which the Steelers would have a hard time matching. But if the Patriots add Sanders they’ll also lose their third-round draft pick. And they’ve already traded away their fourth-round pick for Aqib Talib, their fifth-round pick for Albert Haynesworth and their sixth-round pick for Chad Ochocinco.
Right now, the Patriots are still considering whether they want to give up a third-round pick for Sanders.

Now to mix in with the Patriots rumors, Indianapolis Colts Owner, Jim Irsay, claims that he has something up his sleeve. Many are believing that this could be to get Sanders. Now I should say this: The Steelers have not received an offer from the Colts neither. Teams have one week before the NFL Draft to send in an offer sheet to sign a restricted free agent. If a team was to sign Sanders, then they would have to give up a third round draft pick to the Steelers. Which that may be a fair deal. Sanders has only played in all sixteen regular season games one time in his career. The Steelers are expected to draft a receiver or two in April.sigpicComment

2013 NFL Draft: Mid round wide receiver prospects have value

With Mike Wallace already gone and Emmanuel Sanders supposedly mulling an offer from the Patriots that the Steelers may not be able to match, it is very likely the Steelers will be looking for at least one wide receiver in this draft. While the draft lacks elite talent at wide receiver, it is filled with plenty of talent in the mid rounds. Here is a look at a few of those options.
Regardless of the outcome of the Emmanuel Sanders situation, it's likely the Steelers will be looking to add a receiver in the 2013 NFL Draft.
The top receivers have been mentioned previously, but it's a solid mid-round draft for receivers as well.
Second Round Options
Markus Wheaton, Oregon State - Wheaton is a 6-foot-1 receiver who has good speed and great hands. He runs crisp routes and dominated the Pac-12 in his last year of college, totalling over 90 receptions and over 1100 yards and 11 touchdowns. He would be a great compliment to Antonio Brown.
Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech - Patton, at 6-foot-0, 205 pounds is a big bodied receiver with above average speed. He is great as a blocker, runs good routes, and rarely drops anything. He is very shifty, can make people miss in the open field, and is great at adjusting to poorly thrown balls.
Robert Woods, USC - Woods is built similarly to Patton at 6-foot-0, 201 pounds. He is the best route runner in the draft and almost never drops anything. He ran a 4.51 forty-yard dash so he has good speed. He had a tough junior year because of Matt Barkley's struggles but he still has a great future. The Steelers have shown plenty of interest in him and he seems like a great option.
Third Round Options
Stedman Bailey, West Virginia - Bailey is a small receiver at just 5-foot-10 but he runs incredible routes and has great hands. He is tough to bring down in the open field and plays much bigger than he is. He won't wow you with break away speed but he would get the job done. However, he is built like another Antonio Brown and the Steelers may not need another small, shifty receiver.
Cobi Hamilton, Arkansas - Hamilton, at 6-foot-2, 212 pounds, is a big wide receiver with good speed as well. He had a great year at Arkansas this year, with his biggest game being against Rutgers and second round draft prospect Logan Ryan. He is physical and is a good route runner and would excel on the outside where he can use his size to his advantage.
Ryan Swope, Texas A&M - Swope, at 6-foot-0, has blazing speed, running an official 4.34 40. He is a phenomenal route runner and has great hands. He is great at selling his routes and knows how to play the game. He is not an elite level athlete as a leaper but he could get the job done as an outside receiver.
Fourth Round Options
Marquise Goodwin, Texas - Goodwin is a small, shifty, blazing fast wide receiver who nearly broke Chris Johnson's forty yard dash record running a 4.27. However, he is not much of a football player and more of just a track star.
Aaron Mellette, Elon - Mellete is a big receiver at 6-foot-2, 217 pounds. He has decent speed and has good hands. He runs good routes and has great body control as well. He is not going to blow you away with blazing speed but he can break a big play off every once in a while.
Kenny Stills, Oklahoma - Stills is 6-foot-0, 194 pounds with unreal speed, running a sub 4.4 40. He has good hands and is very flexible and can adjust to poorly thrown balls. However, he is not very physical and his durability may be a concern.
