The stable we had last year is still here minus Mendy and it was? It is clear they need upgrades at RB and that number is at least +2. RBs in the draft are all over the board in hit and miss & round to production. They really need to get a RB here that has some type of NFL resume PLUS drafting one or two. It could be a Wells, a Bradshaw, a Phelix Jones....A body to compete. Given the cap situation...Bradshaw & Jones may be out of reach. Given what happened to Wells...He may be a good risk reward signee. He isn't going to get a big deal with limited to no gurnatees. You still draft a RB in the mid rounds. You let them battle through camp. Dwyer & Redman are on tenders. Redman will be 29. If Wells is beat out by Redman & Dwyer you cut him before the season starts. Makes alot of sense IF he has no chronic injury in that knee.Comment

No way. We are trying to repair a broken locker room as it is. He may not be as caustic as he once was, but he also isn't nearly the play maker he was once either. He doesn't have much left, and his sometimes bad 'tude is exactly what the Steelers DON'T need right now. No reason to risk it.Comment

Beanie Wells' 'bad wheel' quashing Steelers signing?

When the Arizona Cardinals released Beanie Wells last weekend, it was reportedly in part because they were not optimistic about the state of his right knee.
The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted Wells for a Friday visit, but a signing isn't likely to be forthcoming. One source tells the Post-Gazette that Wells was found to have a "bad wheel."
Although Wells did miss lose half of the 2012 season to a turf toe injury, it's a good bet that the knee is the "wheel" in question.
Still just 24 years old, Wells has plenty of time to salvage what has been a disappointing career since being drafted 31st overall in 2009. A signing may be on hold, though, until his troublesome knee shows signs of returning to full health later in the offseason.
Meanwhile, the Steelers' backfield options are growing thin. The best back left on the market, Ahmad Bradshaw, has a bad wheel of his own following the latest round of foot surgery.
Tailback appears to be a position general manager Kevin Colbert will have to address in the NFL draft.

I am glad this signing didn't go down too. I think a RB drafted in the mid rounds has as much potential as a current Wells. I'm bummed we didn't sign Butler though, he probably wants to hear what his old DC Rob Ryan has to say in N.O.1. C.J. Mosley LB Alabama
