Ben Said He Had the Ball...

...at the bottom of the pile, along with a Miami defender. He stated his arm was all the way around the ball and he only let go once he heard the ref tell him touchdown...he didn't want to get his arm broke for no good reason, so he let go.

I thought Miami may have been screwed on that call because it looked like they clearly recovered Ben's fumble. After listening to Roethlisberger, I think the refs got this one exactly right.

Actually, if Ben really did have the ball then they didn't get it exactly right!

I don't know about that, Ben looked mighty worried to me on the sidelines during the review.

however, at least he and Legursky didn't make it conclusive that the Dolphins had the ball.

Re: Ben Said He Had the Ball...

This is EXACTLY the point I was trying to make in this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14277 (not too well, either, I think).

Once the whistle blows, it doesn't matter WHAT happens after that.

Which makes it REALLY hard for me to figure out what the proper call SHOULD be if TD is signalled (in error), and the whistle blows, but there was a fumble ...

They showed him talking to Tomlin and he clearly said to Tomlin, "I had the ball".

It looked to me as if Legursky was the only one with a legit shot at it, but it soon became apparent he didn't have it. When I saw the Dolphin defender get up with the ball and hand it to the ref, I thought it was a foregone conclusion they had recovered.

With all of the unspeakable things that can take place at the bottom of a scrum like that, for the play to be blown dead at that point was a blessing. I'm not sure how much of a grip Ben had vs the defender, but it could have easily have been called Miami ball. Given the circumstances, I give the refs credit for the call.

Re: Ben Said He Had the Ball...

I just saw Ben on TV saying:

"I was under the pile, I had possession of the ball with my right arm, then the ref tapped me on the back and said 'touchdown', so I let go 'cause I didn't want my arm messed up".

I just want to enjoy this win. Do we really need to hear all the conspiracy crap/favortism this week from everyone??? The Rat fans are saying it too, but that they weren't given the turnover in the end when RayRay stripped it. Said forward progress wasn't stopped. It just seems like the Steelers are always scrutinized unfairly and I'm tired of it............

It's every bit as exhausting as hearing Steelers fans whine about the team not being perfect and not making every play, isn't it?

It's getting really hard to enjoy NFL football anymore. I think my best advice to fans as impossible as this is...just don't listen to the media outside of Pittsburgh anymore.

They can't take the W away from the Steelers...just enjoy it...5-1! Even if for some bad reason the Steelers only go .500 the rest of the way...we are 11-5 and in the playoffs.

                          That is good stuff!

5-1 = 6 games. Subtract that from a 16 game schedule and you have 10 games left. Splitting those contests puts us at 10-6.

I became a huge fan of this during the game today - unabashedly pro-Steelers announcers (I think one of them was Wolf)!! Couldn't stand hearing Doos-Dorf any more. There was a little bit of a delay of course, but it was definitely VERY manageable, and VERY worth it -

I think every single game from here on in, I'll have it on TV (DirecTV where needed), be on the gametime chat, and listen to Wolf call the game.

As close to Steeler heaven as one can get without actually being at the game, IMO!!
