LOL
I don't mind the family aspect at all. Players' kids grow up immersed in the locker room. They don't get overwhelmed by it, they idolize it and are already comfortable with it.

It would be funny if Arians was still the coach there and brought him in. Turn him into a tackling dummy because his dad fired him. "Hey Dino. You're playing OL today. You're lining up across from Vita Vea and we haven't fed him for a week - keep him away from your QB.

Seriously, I hope we hire based on who's the best candidate more than who has family ties to the team. You do the latter, and I think you are apt to miss getting the best personnel more often than not.
My guess is that the talent differential once you get into the 7th (where Bruener was drafted) is very small.

I hope that our biggest complaint about this draft in 5 years is about what we did with our first of two 7th round picks.

If you were in a draft pick contest this year and didn't take Bruener..........

          Well shame on you.

Personally, I was surprised they didn't take Ryan Clark's kid with the 2nd 7th rounder.

Well we didn't draft Rayn Clark so...
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

But then he wouldn't be able to match his dad's draft status - UDFA. Maybe the Steelers will let him follow his old man's path. Start off for two years with a New Jersey based team called New York, then a couple of years with a team within the same division, then, and only then, sign him as a free agent and let him play for 8 years and win a Super Bowl - just make sure he misses at least one playoff game in Denver along the way.

Reaply? I would suggest "the best" and family are not mutually exclusive my friend.
Let's use the two guys you mentioned specifically.

Hayward was a SIXTH ROUND PICK. They rarely pan out. In fact I would suggest Conner has been our most impactful 6th round pick since the incredible ANTHONY CHICKILLO a DECADE ago.

Herbig? Remember Nate was first so Nick was the family pick. He was an OUTSTANDING value pick in the 4th.

While we are at it let's add JPJ.
Universally mocked a first rounder, and we got him in the second? Was that a reach because he was family?

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

                  TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

And while he wasn't part of the Steelers family, a big part of the TJ Watt pick was blood lines.

I think sometimes people forget that he was a project coming out of college. And there was a lot of on line feedback about how we only picked him because of his last name.
