Since we beat up the two NY teams in Prime Time at home, Russ is averaging 18.6 PPG and is 4-4.

Is it time to go back?

Neither is the answer IMO. Russ is clearly the superior passer. But our line can’t protect him long enough and we have only one competent wideout.

Russ beat the Bungjes in a shootout. No way I go back to Fields.

Wilson is a mess with ball security and taking sacks the last few weeks. Fantasy passing stats don’t mean **** when you score 10 points.

I wouldn't mind seeing more Fields (if he's healthy).

But my guess is that changing your QB with a week left in the season isn't a good strategy either.

I won't be upset if they make a change. But I don't think they will. And it's probably the right decision to keep Russ as the starter. Maybe play Justin more. And if he looks a lot better, then make the switch?

Agree, barring injury they’re not doing this. Bare minimum, you can’t give Russ an extension, that’s basically admitting that just having a winning season is enough.

I still applaud turning the QB room over in one offseason to try something new, but it looks like it’s not going to yield results.

So do it again this coming offseason.

I'd move on from BOTH Russ and Fields

If Russ finishes like he is playing now, I offer Fields first in the offseason. If we lose him I offer Russ a cheap deal as his value would be nil. Whichever QB gets signed would not break the bank and I start looking at QB in the coming drafts.

In the last 3 games, on 3rd down:

• Average yards to go = 9.0, average yards gained = 4.1
• On a passing play, average yards to go = 9.7, average yards gained = 3.0
• On a running play (there has only been 8 total on 3rd down), average yards to go = 4.8, average yards gained = 8.5 (before you get all excited about that, 64 out of 68 yards gained were Wilson scrambles. It seems QB scrambles, Wilson or Fields, are one of the few things keeping the offense going)

If the Steelers don't stay out of 3rd and long, they are basically screwed on the drive. Wilson either doesn't have the time, can't find an open man, or no one can get open.

I think a creative idea would be giving Fields a couple of drives instead of maybe one play here and there. The DC wouldn't be expecting it and the D would be caught off guard. It doesn't require a brand new gameplan and will throw the D more than disrupt the O.

I go into this off-season the same way as 2022. QB is not the move unless a) your convinced you have the right guy for the future or b) you have your line and weapons in place.

A great set of circumstances can make a QB look much better than he would in a bad situation, and I can pass up a pretty good QB until I have that situation - but if you have your Mahomes/Burrow/Lamar/Allen you grab him with both hands.

Examples of pretty good QBs who look great in the right situation: Purdy, Hurts

Examples of good QBs who look like trash in the wrong situation: the list is endless.

The Steelers may or may not be so far away. On the line there are 3 guys who are young and hopefully on the upswing - Jones, McCormick, Frazier. Still hope for first-rounder, injured Fautanu, and maybe time to move on from Seumalo (32 next year, injured early, play declining) and Moore (everybody's whipping boy for 4 years, started the year strong, play declining lately). So maybe 1 or 2 new bodies needed on OL.

Need a new lead back - Najee ain't the guy, and I don't think that Warren has the ability to be a workhorse - either physically or reliably, but he is perfect for the role he has (40-55%). Obviously new weapons out wide as well.

Any QB can fill in until that point at a reasonable and non-commital contract. Either you find your guy or rent a bridge QB.

This is how you end up with Kenny Pickett. I'd rather pass on drafting a QB if my franchise QB is not available. I'm okay with a bridge guy while the team focuses on repairing other needs - DL, WR, RB, OL, CB etc. Drafting a QB for the sake of drafting a QB is a recipe for disaster.
