I'm not buying the calf story. We aren't gerting the straight dope. Wilson played in the last pre-season game. and had two week rest before that regular season. Didn't he injure the calf early in camp on a non contact drill? Either Tomlin is an idiot and should have been resting Wilson, or Wilson now is fine and Tomlin is using it as an excuse to play Fields.

It could be a bit of both.

It would not surpise me one iota if Wilson is tetsy with Tomlin.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

There’s always more to the story than we hear. But I think Tomlin wants a veteran QB running the offense. If Wilson could go without fear of reinsuring, I think he’d be out there.

Then list Wilson as doubtful. I think he is ready to go, and Tomlin is using the mild injury as an excuse.

The pressure is on Fields to produce and win a game where the defense does not produce +2 turnovers.

I think injury listings aren't subjective anymore (since BB would just BS the system).

They are based on player participation in practice prior to the game.

Why does there always have to be a conspiracy? Why can't it be as simple as Wilson tweaking the calf injury and Tomlin wanting to both make sure he heals completely this time and has the QB out there who is at full strength? If Tomlin is truly comfortable with both QBs, then that's the prudent course of action to take.

I find it fascinating that so many folks have brains that are hard-wired to travel down illogical rabbit holes in pursuit of supporting a narrative. Too bad it's not just relegated to football.

Flasteel, WIlson injured his calf 6+ weeks ago and played on it in a meaningless pre-season game. It was a non contact injury. He was okay for that, right? In the preseason game #2, which he missed he said he could have played if this was a regular season game.

              His words...

Make of it what you will.

              Either:

1 ) Tomlin is a dolt and should have rested Wilson in the pre-season. He had a little boo - boo right? Surely 6+ weeks is enough time to recover from it.

              OR

2 ) Russell is in his dog house and Tomlin prefers Fields and chooses to play him even though we think Wilson is the starter according to the media and depth chart.

Tomlin also mismanaged the Jones injury. Now he is benched over a rookie who did not unseat him during the pre-season and has not started a regular season.

              Now what am I missing?

tweaked it in practice and no need to rush in back with the way our schedule is set up.

The calf injury is real and was downplayed by Wilson and Tomlin, but obviously if a small setback costs him 3 starts it's not trivial.

That was a minor injury that happened in August. Fields holds the ball too long and has ball control issues with fumbles. The ball has bounced our way lately.

                    BUT

                    It will even out.

If the D doesn't produce turnovers, I think Field's flaws will be magnified and if Boswell doesn't nail four 50+ yard field goals well .... they did.

But stop kidding yourself Steeler fans. These are not givens in every game.

Fields will have to win an even trnover game. It would take much for the fans to turn on him. Russell Wilson anyone? Tomlin will turn to him sometime this year. I hope he doesn't have a grudge.

I think the truth is somewhere in between. Russ ABSOLUTELY would have started game 1 if healthy. If he were in his prime with a lesser backup he COULD play. But with his limited participation before the season, nagging injury and Fields rapid growth in camp, Fields was a better option than a compromised Russ who could use the rest to heal completely. It is also a convenient opportunity to evaluate Fields.

But every win solidifies Fields position. If our scoring improves, it will be harder to justify bringing Wilson in once healthy.

Or maybe his calf flared up before the first game and he isn't ready to go. Wilson is still logging limited practices, and Tomlin can't just say Wilson is injured, Tomlin is not a doctor. Wilson is looked at by the medical staff and that gets reported to the league and his injury designation is determined by his practice participation. Tomlin doesn't need an excuse to play Fields, he doesn't need to make up an injury, he is the head coach, he can play Fields for whatever reason wants.

No conspiracy, injuries happen. If Fields crapped the bed in Denver I think we would’ve seen Wilson this week.

What’s weird is saying Tomlin mishandled other injuries but when he doesn’t play Wilson he is also mishandling it even though we are 2-0.

Can’t win until we lose with some fans.

                          Why is that?

Fields is wearing diapers. As such crapping in the bed and not passing for 200 yards or more is not hurting us much...as long as Boswell and the defense bail us out.

Prove to me Wilson is really hurt. He is walking fine. No limp. Tomlin must have sucker powers for some fans. He would have made a good barker for the circus if they were still in business.

Step right up, the amazing Fields coupled with Art Smith's " No net offense " is coming. On the ticket in small print Tomlin is selling there is a disclaimer to ignore the FB advertising. And the trade rumors for a good #2 WR. But fans can stilll see the danicng diva's.

There is a sucker born every minute. So fans will buy anyting Tomlin says. He will be in town for two more years.

Tickets are limited and sell for $200.00 a showing.

Wait a minute I'm a Steeler fan, my standards are better than not making the playoffs once every 8+ years!

The smug Mr. Art Rooney II quips, " You better buy now, so you will miss the playoffs. "

Playoffs? The standard remains the standard.

Send in the clowns. You won't have look hard for one of them. The bug eyed fortune teller, the amazing Tomlin is included!

Watch out for the Lions, Tigers, and Bears, oh my.

for what it's worth, one of the steelers beat writers posted video from practice this week of the QB's. They were running a drill where the QB takes the snap and then spins, rolls out to the left and makes the pass. Russ was the only QB who took a shotgun snap, didn't roll out and just made a quick toss. There may be other reasons. It may just be a calf. But a small drill, with no defense rushing - and he couldn't/wouldn't execute it like the others.

Unless this team is playing a high level of deception - it might be exactly what they've been claiming.
