I'm not buying the Russell Wilson calf story. There is more to it.

Why? I'm a balance to Tomlin's word salad. Steeler fans eat this up. Besides, James Pierre is back.

Don't you go checking with your IT guy on me. That would be harsh : ( Now Windy, um I have no commmet. He's no James Pierre fan! 'Nuff said.

So you see we can't possibly be the same person How is that for new material?

Maybe I should play fantasy football and draft some AFC North players on my team? Nah, it puts my Steeler fan loyaity is doubt.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

In this instance, it is not just Tomlin saying that Russell Wilson has an injury. He is on camera himself saying that he is not completely recovered from this injury. Unless you are also attacking Wilson's character and suggesting that he is acting and lying on camera to perpetuate this ruse, there is something to the injury.

Last year, when Pickett got injured and Rudolph came and played much better, I think Tomlin stuck with Rudolph and used Pickett's injury as an excuse. Although Pickett himself felt he was ready to play and was quoted saying that.

I take the personal approach that noone should question anybody else's level of pain and injury. If they say they are injured, you don't walk in their mocassins so you don't know and shouldn't say they aren't injured.

Wilson can play NOW. I do not buy the talk that he is really hurting. Wilson did not say he can't play due to injury.

Can he play? Maybe. Is he a better option than Fields right now?

          Well, read Wilson's own words:

“I think the first part is the will. I’ve got the will. I think the second part is you’ve got to be able to basically pretty much do everything,” Wilson said. “I’m getting there. I also have to listen to the doctors and hear what they have to say. At the end of the day, it’s kind of one of those decisions. It’s a team effort of trying to figure out what’s the best thing. I’m doing everything I can to go.”

you don’t know if Wilson can play and be effective. Makes no sense to play Wilson if he isn’t 100%. I could see if we were 0-2 and desperately needed a win but that isn’t the case.

You are just complaining because we are winning and you hate Tomlin and need something to whine about.

so riddle me this - even IF they're using russels calf injury as a red herring to keep him off the field, I have a hard time with anyone suggesting the best strategy is to keep him designated as the emergency QB and not just have him as #2 on the depth chart. Because if it's a fraud/conspiracy to keep wilson on the bench, you're saying the coaches and the rest of the players (who all want to win) are going along with it so we can keep Kyle Allen as the next man up. if wilson truly is healthy enough to play - it's ridiculous to think they'd purposely keep him below Allen.

When we were 7-3 EYE was a vocal defender of Kenny. I DID NOT give up on Kenny after his horrid Niner game. I was happily riding your Kenny bus defending those low scoring victories with you. You act like this whole board was hating on Kenny. ONLY ONCE MASON came in did I get off that bus. I know we are averaging 17 points a game, which with OUR DEFENSE, kicking, and the overall easy schedule to date has us at 3-0. Is that the standard?

Now the Steelers are stupid to have Wilson as the emergency qb. Fans don't know Wilson's calf is. I say he 's fine, and walks fine with no visible limp. And the beat writers will tell you the same.

Tomlin is simply using the excuse that he's hurt. If Fields was to get hurt in practice I guarantee you Wilson won't be the emergency QB anymore. He will start. So much for his calf.

The way Fields is playing he's not losing any games.

                      I think he's genuinely hurt.

That he could play if he had to (like Herbert), but would likely get injured in game (like Herbert). He's already reinjured it once.

This isn't like us playing a pick up game. He's got to plant and rip it. And probably run for his life now and again.

And older guys heal slow (even the super humans in the NFL)

And Justin is playing pretty well. Keeping the O on the field even if the points aren't anything to write home about.

The offense isn't necessarily fun to watch. But it's not the abomination we were treated to for most of last season.

We're still winning mostly because of the D. But we aren't getting owned in yards and ToP. And my guess is that we're at least average at converting 1st downs into new 1st downs or points.

It might have been interesting to see Mason in this situation too. I think he may be better in the pocket, but obviously much less of a threat with his legs. Fields' ability to run is important in this O. Which is another reason that Wilson at 75% or whatever probably doesn't make sense.

Especially as Fields has been trending upward (granted 3 games is a small sample and may just be noise).

Really like how he didn't let the INT screw up his whole game.

that's my point. there's no conspiracy here. Wilson is hurt and can't perform as needed.

An insider at Steelers practice last week said Wilson only took snaps from the shotgun, no bootlegs, no back-peddles from under center. That doesn't sound like a guy ready to play.

We have seen Fields play with a lead and the defense has him on the plus side of turnovers. This is to say he has had it easy and has not had to pass from behind much.

3 games is a decent sized sample, 4 games used to be 25% of the season. He is what he is.

                            It not just noise.

                            That is what I think.

Who knows with the sudden decline in scoring and QB play, maybe he is good enough and we will be 4-0.

Fields will probably get his last start against the Colts and look for Wilson to start Sunday night in a few weeks against the Cowboys. Do I like it, No. But that appears to be the plan. See SD.

Gerry Dulac recently reported that Russell Wilson will resume his practice participation this week, but he doesn’t think that the Steelers will turn away from Justin Fields. While Wilson was named the starter ahead of the season, the Steelers are 3-0, and Dulac thinks Fields will get at least one more start on the road […]

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.
