Don't shoot the messenger but the author of the article below is suggesting that Mike Tomlin is ruining the career of Broderick Jones. There have been lots of rumors circulating around that MT believes he is the smartest football mind in the room at all times. Is this another case of Mike Tomlin's stubborn arrogance believing that he can develop a player outside of his natural position? See Kevin Dotson as an example.

Tomlin Goes the Extra Mile to Ruin Broderick Jones
The Pittsburgh Steelers are between a rock and a hard place on the offensive line. Mike Tomlin is making the wrong decision with Broderick Jones, again.

I WILL agree on this. It IS insane that we have not gotten pieces in place and STILL dont know where guys are gonna be. THAT is a legit criticism. I really dont have a strong opinion about where guys play. While guys like Dotson clearly better at one position, others are more versatile, maybe BETTER at a position that was not their college position (Dawson, Hartings, R Foster, heck Villenueva).
But we gotta get the pieces in place whatever it may be to get continuity. That IS a fail on Tomlin and the staff.
Between the fail of not figuring that out, expected youth, and the injuries, it looks like despite drafting oline as a priority, it might be a big mess for a good chunk of the season. I hope I am wrong.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Position flexibility is valued because it protects the high floor of non-losing seasons in the event of injury. That seems to be the most important goal in Pittsburgh.
If Tomlin starred in Castaway he would have never gotten off the island but he'd not run out of food or water, either.Comment

Rooney's won't do anything until it hits their pocket. Stop going to games (easier said than done for ticket holders) boo for unacceptable performance, or flat out leave the stadium.
All of that happened last year and it's been happening but last year, it came to a boil.
A coordinator took the fall, AGAIN. This time, rightfully so but Tomlin was starting to get heat by media talking heads that historically never left his side.Tomlin: Let's unleash hell and "mop the floor" with the competition.Comment

He is a Schmuck.Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.
Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.
*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***Comment

I don't believe that. If there is any ruining of careers it will be by Jones himself. The guy had 19 starts as a LT in college. He has multiple shortcomings he needs to fix before he can be a legit tackle on either side of the line. Jones has to put in the work, or it won't end well in the 'Burgh for him. Weren't you the one just posting about his apparent flabby body? Why should Tomlin reward him with the LT position if that is the case?Last edited by WindyCitySteel; 09-05-2024, 07:54 AM.Comment

By the way steelz09, can you please find some new moderators. Ones that will actually apply the rules in a consistent and fair manner? I'd be willing to help you out in that department after the 14th of September when I come back from Vegas.
Besides this the two moderators always claim they are too busy to their jobs properly. I won't have that problem after the September 14th and I'll moderate fairly and consistently on the basis of the rules you want followed. That would solve 95% of the problems on this forum.

He needs coaching he may not get here. As I pointed out in another thread, not only did Dotson soar to new heights after leaving, both Mason Cole and James Daniels' (per PFF) both dropped in their first two years in Pittsburgh, Seaumalo did in his first and had the very rough game before getting hurt. If he also drops again in his second year, I don't think we can put the blame four all instances solely on the players.sigpic
