    Steelers Best QB Leaves Team

I hate to criticize Mike Tomlin but our HC totally mismanaged John Rhys Plumlee. Never gave the kid a real chance at his natural position. Plumlee was our best QB in preseason and had a 79.9 PFF ranking, higher than all our QB's on the team.

Keep in mind Russell Wilson at this stage in his career is a sack machine. The old guy can't make decisions nearly fast enough. Justin Fields on the other hand is careless with the football and can't protect it from his fumble fingers. Justin has a severe problem of running right into sacks because he suffers from horrible vision while on the move. Kyle Allen was way better than both Wilson and Fields. Yet here we are.

Tomlin can't keep promises to the players he signs. Basically it seems to me he lied to Plumlee about giving him a fair chance at QB. No wonder the extremely talented Plumlee decided it was best to head to Jacksonville where the coaching staff appreciates his ability.

Former Steelers UDFA John Rhys Plumlee, who played QB, WR, and on special teams this summer, announced he's joining the Jaguars.

I was disappointed we didn't keep Plumlee on the PS (I think he has some potential for development), but our best QB?

Respectfully, not sure what you've been smoking.

Not even close. As a UCF fan, Plummer was the most inconsistent QB and cost UCF as many games as he won
"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"

First Plumlee isn't a good QB, second I seriously doubt Tomlin told Plumlee he would be given a shot to compete for the QB position. Tomlin gave Plumlee more exposure than most 4th string QBs get by putting him on the field for other teams to see as a kick returner. Some folks read too much into the preseason games they watch on TV while forgetting that the coaches are looking at players for an entire camp.

100% false. As the article clearly states Plumlee signed with the Steelers because he believed the team was going to give him a shot at QB. That never happened. It seems to be a trend with Mike Tomlin when players are promised things but then he doesn't deliver on them. Nevertheless, he's in a good place now and with a HC who has integrity.

Coming out of UCF, new Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback John Rhys Plumlee had thoughts that he might have to switch to wide receiver to stick in the NFL.

That Article in no way says that Tomlin promised Plumlee a shot to be the Steelers QB. If Plumlee thought he was going to come in and be splitting reps with Wilson Fields and Allen then he is delusional.

Best QB? based on what? Maybe you could say QB with the most upside, but not best QB.

In the article Plumlee said, "But Pittsburgh believes in me as a quarterback, and that’s part of the reason why I am here.” That quote is proof enough that the Steelers said to him that they believe in him as a QB. Therefore it isn't a stretch in the least bit that Plumlee would expect a fair shot at showing his abilities to the team as a QB since they liked him at that position.

You can spin it any way you want but there is no other way to interpret this quote other then the team never lived up to their end of the promise. This dishonesty continues to be a trait of Coach Tomlin with various players.

Apparently you didn't read post #1. In that post I stated, "Plumlee was our best QB in preseason and had a 79.9 PFF ranking, higher than all our QB's on the team. He had the best grade according to PFF in other words among the QBs on the roster.

When I saw the title, I thought this was an old Mason Rudolph thread that someone pulled up.

He was undrafted free agent, he got signed as a QB that's it. That doesn't mean you will get an equal opportunity to start. There is no way on earth the Steelers went out and signed Wilson and Fields during the offseason and then promised Plumlee he would be in line for the job. That is completely insane.

Tomlin didn't break any imaginary promises. Plumlee got in a game and played QB.

                        PFF?... really:

Plumlee completed 3 out of 4 passes for a total 32 yards against the Lions 3rd and 4th stringers. If you thought that was the future of the Steelers at the QB position then I don't know what more to say....

It's just plain scummy behavior to tell a player that you believe in him at QB but then don't let him get equal reps comparable to the third stringer. It's not as though Kyle Allen has been a QB who can even win half of his games that he's started. To me is bad management not to give Allen real competition. Unless you think Allen's career record of 7-12 is amazing in your eyes.

Which brings me to Justin Fields and his career record of 10-28. Now there's a future SB winning QB if I ever saw one, not! The dude's only TD drive in preseason came against 3rd stringers and you have the gall to criticize Plumlee's limited playing time at QB. At least Plumlee wasn't a fumbling sack machine.

Finally back to our starter Russell Wilson. You know the guy who was cut by his last two teams and is 35 years old. The dude stunk up the Rocky Mountains with a paraplegic like 100 sacks in his two seasons in Denver. Championship! The dude struggled mightily against 2nd stringers and finally ended up with a TD drive.

It's okay that you don't see my point Wizard. I know you hate me and that is okay too. if you don't see the merit in what I'm saying then you don't see the merit in it. Have a great Labor Day.

There are plenty of reasons to criticize Tomlin as coach of this team.

This is not one of them.

That is pathetic on Tomlin's part to not give the kid a fair chance against Kyle Allen. It's not as though Kyle Allen will ever be a good backup or even play this regular season. That's the part that pisses me off. You don't tell a young player that you believe in him as a QB but then don't give him as many reps as the 3rd stringer. I'm glad Plumlee went to a coaching staff who values honesty and integrity.

Fields finally got a TD in preseason playing against 3rd stringers, Wilson against 2nd stringers with his starters playing after struggling in several series before he led a TD drive. To take Plumlee's 75% completion away from him while praising Fields and Wilson is a ridiculous take in my view.
