Re: Chadman Does the First Round...

I think that is a fairly accurate representation of the players and values.

I am curious though as to your opinion/reasoning in choosing Iupati over Wilson. Not so much iupati's ability or merit, but our need (as the steelers).

I view our two biggest needs as: 1) CB 2) OL (in that order)

I'm with you on OL need. We do not have one pro-bowler on our entire OL. We MUST upgrade it. We must start opening holes in the run game. And we must do a better job of protecting big ben, especially the interior OL. I believe Iupati projects to be best used at left guard. On our roster we currently have Kemo in that spot. Maybe he could move to right guard? Or maybe Iupati plays right guard at first? I am all for upgrading our OL but we just invested a high pick in Urbik who plays right guard and we have Foster who is possibly even better at right guard. What exactly are you suggesting our plans are concerning them? I just don't see 'guard' as our top priority based on our current roster. Center is/should be our top priority. I could see taking Pouncey even though that might be too high, but a guard doesn't seem like the greatest need/value at 18.

On the other hand look at our current CB's: Ike and Gay. I mean really honestly look at that for a moment... Ike and Gay... Now the real kicker... What if one of them gets hurt?... I just see too much of a need there to not go with Wilson. He's an immediate upgrade over Gay and he (potentially) compliments Ike very well.

Also, take a look at some past drafts. I might be wrong but it seems to me 18 is very high for a guard. If i'm taking a guard at 18 he better be a Hutchinson or Faneca. If he is... So be it. But he better not be Kemoeatu II.

    Just my thoughts.

Ah, get a FB in there on more plays that'll help too. Our biggest need is on Defense. CB, LB. DL. IMO

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Mays, Wilson and Graham on the board and the Steelers take an OG at 1.18?

Steelers aren'y looking for a safety in Round 1 according to today's PG

Forget the safety from Southern California, Taylor Mays. Mike Tomlin does not like him, not high in the draft anyway. He put up good numbers at the combine, but not good performances during last season. Remember what Deion Sanders said about Mays? He's right on as far as the Steelers are concerned. Here is a safety Tomlin does like: Kam Chancellor of Virginia Tech, a big man at 6-3, 231. He's not a first-rounder, but then the Steelers no longer have an interest in drafting a safety on the first round.

Brandon Graham is the right choice in Round 1. Everyone needs to be concerend that Harrison only managed 2 sacks in the last 8 games of last season. His ability to get to the QB is as much a key to LeBeau's defense as Troy's play. His ability the last half od the season explains some of the losses that should never have happened.

Iupati wouldn't be as good as Graham but it would be understandable because Essex was hardley a top quality player last season. If he can develop into a solid OT it would be even better.

Even playing part-time, I think Graham would have 10 sacks his first year as a Steeler. He is that good.

I was just about to post this same point-

Skins guaranteed to go OL. If it were me, I'd have the skins trading down 5 to 10 spots- they need a lot of help on the OL & WR.

No chance we take a G at that spot.
Big pimp tackle if one falls or we trade up a bit to get one. Or we sit and wait for best D player. Wilson or whoever they think is best remaining. They like to draft guards after a deep playoff run and pick 28-32.
You can get decent guards for modest coin in FA. You cannot find decent T in FA without alot of coin.
With a more top pick than normal, we'll try to find a player traditionally expensive on the FA market.

It sounds like they are not interested in drafting a S in round one now, but that could be a smokescreen. I'd like to see them upgrade the line, but I don't want to see us draft a G or C at #18. So maybe it will be Graham or Wilson.

If they really like Iupati or Pouncey (Lord forbid) then they had better look to trade down into the mid 20s. Taking either at #18 would be a reach. I could almost accept Iupati there if they really thing they can develop him into an OT. No way with Pouncey. We have NEVER drafted a Center in Round 1...please, please don't start now!!!!!!!!

                              Finally! Thank you!

Look at the nfl draft history guys. How many guards and centers go at 1.18? Seriously?
If they really like Iupati or Pouncey (Lord forbid) then they had better look to trade down into the mid 20s. Taking either at #18 would be a reach. I could almost accept Iupati there if they really thing they can develop him into an OT. No way with Pouncey. We have NEVER drafted a Center in Round 1...please, please don't start now!!!!!!!!
                              Yes...No! Never!

The clamor for OT was great last year and we went out and got ourselves a 3rd round guard. Overall, clamor is less for OL this year (just comparing this board to last year) and has shifted somewhat to DB. The weakest starter on the team last year was Slick Willie Gay (Trai Essex second) and depth at safety was non-existant. DB go higher in the first round than OG/OC. So I hope the plan is to draft DB early, then use a few extra picks to get back into the end of the first round and grab a OG/OC we like.
