it is a lot of money. But compare it to 150-200 M guaranteed he would be getting with a long term deal.

This is where not having an agent hurts him. He would have advised him to force the ravens hand or likely sit out
    I wonder...

He might be looking at the Watson contract.

He was accused of raping 20+ women.

He missed a season of football.

It was well known that he was going to get a fairly large suspension.

And he got a massive contract with the most guaranteed money ever.

Maybe someone like Lamar looks at that and thinks "would my market value really fall all that much if I got hurt"? All you need is one team who wants to sell a lot of season tickets before the season starts.

Personally, it's not a gamble I'd make. But when the worst case scenario sets you up with multi-generational wealth anyway...I don't think it's crazy to swing for the fences.

lets get a deal done in the neighberhood (or above) the contracts murray or wilson just signed
Here's an agent's take on the matter (before he turned down their offer).

The gist was that he probably wasn't going to get the guarantees so as an agent, Corry would have counselled to concede the guaranteed money to (i) increase the AAV to be the highest ever and (ii) press very hard to a "player friendly" structure (i.e. heavily front loaded).

Apparently BAL had a very high AAV and player friendly contract structure for Mark Andrews (who clearly is less important to their success than their QB), so Corry felt that pushing for that kind of structure for the QB would have been a good idea.

I haven't listened to the new podcast that was just released after Lamar turned them down. Or maybe it's better to say "apparently" turned them down because there is still time left IMO...

all that has happened to watson wasn't anything that could hamper his skills on the field. an injury could.

plus, its the cleveland. they knew they had to over pay to get someone like watson to come play there

The last thing I'm doing is looking to the idiot Browns as an example to follow.
It would be interesting if it's true that no QB won if they didn't win in their first 5 years...

Potentially more evidence that if you don't have a guy that looks elite on their rookie deal, look for another guy (if you're actually looking to maximize chance of winning).

Manning is a pretty big exception.

As a quick check, I looked at Eli. He won in his 4th year the first time. Not a proof, but some support anyway. Thought he might not fit since I don't think he's thought of as an elite QB

I don't necessarily disagree with you.

But I think a big reason that QBs get paid is to be the face of the franchise and sell season tickets. And Watson is not that great for at least the first of those.

Elway has Dan Revees at coach and he disagreed with his philosophy. One he was removed Elway won Super Bowls.
He said if Lamar doesn't make a SB by 2023.. that is in 2 years.

does this also apply to Josh Allen and other QB's who will be up for a new contract soon?

I don't care who the coach was when Elway won a SB. The whole "win a SB or move on" is a terrible business model. For most franchises it's "do we think we can make the playoffs and have a chance at a SB with this QB?" If the answer is yes, you sign him to an extension.

For me, after you get a big contract if we don't make deep runs or reach a SB THEN you move on.

LJ: 20/29 for 144 yds, 1 TD, 2 INTs today

Oh, and Harbaugh puts it in his QB's hands for a failed 4th and goal at the end.

He looked like the playoff version today. Really bad reads, bad throws, and utterly confused.

Jackson passed for 144 yards, 1 int and 2 int. He get down on himself. In a close game that the Raven defense doesn't win for him, when he needs to pass, he doesn't shine. It happed at the end of the Miami game too.

He is averaging an interception a game, and games he won were over bad teams. His running ability is amazing, and he gets " big plays " that way, but this will last until he gets hurt again, which judging by the way he plays is soon.

Outside of one game, he's average passing game is like Mitch Trubisky 144 yards. 213 and 214 yards. That's it.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

See? He’s the guy I’ve always said he was. Throwing picks , can’t really pass.

Careful what you wish for. The more his value declines the less likely he gets to kill the Ravens cap.

Come on Lamar, Steeler Nation NEEDS the Ravens to give you a cap destroying deal!
