PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Love was in the air on Pittsburgh’s North Shore this holiday as Steelers’ fans gathered at Heinz Field for a rare Christmas Eve home game.
‘Twas the day before Christmas and all through the North Shore, Steeler fans were dreaming of the Super Bowl and hoping for one more. Beer cans were hung on the tree with care in hopes that Santa Claus would soon be there.
It was a traditional Christmas Eve celebration as tailgaters warmed their hands over the crackling fire, and a holiday feast was laid out – including a deep-fried Christmas turkey. And, of course, there were cookies for Santa and his elves.
There were also carolers who brought the spirit of the season. Known as “Mad Dog,” one season ticket holder livened up the crowd with his own version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”
The holiday tailgate was all about bringing family together. And for one Steelers fan, Santa brought the extra special gift of a Christmas Eve proposal.
“I’m going to be asking for my girlfriend’s hand in marriage,” said one fan. “I love you so much and I want to tailgate the rest of my life with you.”
