PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The Steelers continue what is looking like a purge of some of their older players with bigger contracts.
Bryant McFadden was released several weeks ago, the Hines Ward announcement came yesterday and today, it is veteran defensive lineman Aaron Smith.
Smith has only played in 15 games the last three seasons with an assortment of injuries.
It’s the main reason why they could not afford to keep him around at age 35.
During his prime, he was one of the best 3-4 defensive linemen in Steelers history.
With the move, the Steelers save about $ 2.5 million.
