PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — While the Steelers sat and waited for tonight’s game at San Francisco, their playoff picture got incredibly more favorable on Sunday.
Not only did Pittsburgh (10-3) clinch a playoff berth with an upset victory by Indianapolis against Tennessee, 27-13, but losses by the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans gave the Steelers complete control in the AFC.
If Pittsburgh wins out it will own the AFC’s top spot and home field throughout the playoffs.
Baltimore (10-4) lost at San Diego Sunday night, 34-14, dropping them a half game behind the Steelers. Even though the Ravens won both regular season games against Pittsburgh, the Steelers can win out and win the AFC North.
Houston (10-4) lost at home to Carolina, 28-13. The Texans beat Pittsburgh in Week 3, giving them the head-to-head tiebreaker, but Sunday’s loss give the Steelers a half-game lead.
Lastly, Pittsburgh’s win against New England earlier this year gives it a head-to-head tie breaker against the Patriots.
Pittsburgh plays the 49ers (10-3) tonight, followed by the St. Louis Rams (2-12) and Cleveland Browns (4-10).
