With injuries all over the place, the Steelers have promoted running back Chad Spann from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
Originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Illinois, the 5-foot-8, 202-pound Spann had eight carries for 31 yards, one reception for 25 yards, returned four kickoffs for 67 yards and had one special teams tackle for the Colts in the preseason, but was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury in Week 1.
Waived with an injury settlement, Spann worked out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 17 and was signed to their practice squad, where he spent a month before he was released. Spann joined the Steelers’ practice squad in the middle of December.
Linebacker Chris Carter (hamstring) has been placed on injured reserve to add Spann to the roster. The Steelers have also added running back Albert Young to the practice squad.
