PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Ben Roethlisberger added to his lore another gutsy performance, leading the Steelers to a 14-3 win over the Cleveland Browns despite injuring his ankle in the second quarter.
An X-ray showed that he did not break his ankle; however, the NFL Network is reporting that Roethlisberger suffered a high ankle sprain.
He underwent an MRI Friday and will be wearing a walking boot for at least a week. His status for the Dec. 19 game against the San Francisco 49ers is unclear at this point.
Roethlisberger was already playing with a broken thumb. His comeback was impressive to teammates.
“Anther gutsy performance,” James Farrior said. “The guy shows a lot of heart. He’s a winner, that’s all he’s been since he’s been [here]. We expect nothing different from him.”
