According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, there’s a good chance that running back Rashard Mendehall may have carried the ball for the last time as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers don’t expect Mendenhall to contribute much, if anything on the field this coming season, after tearing his ACL late in the 2011 season. The 2012 season is also the last season that he’s under contract for, so he’ll be a free agent at this time next year. I wouldn’t expect the Steelers to re-sign him at that time.
The Steelers have gone away from the run like most NFL teams and could likely find someone to replace him fairly easily.
