    Pat Kirwan's 10 to Watch

You guys know more than I do so wanted to hear some thoughts about a few of these guys. Kirwan tries to draw our eyes to some of the 2nd level prospects that could help their stock. I was particularly wondering about his comments on Kyle Wilson and the Center from BC, Tennant. I think good Centers always seem to be very smart guys (need to be about the smartest on the field, moreso than a QB I think), and his comments about this dude stuck out to me. Could he be 2nd round target for us depending on how we go first round?

Re: Pat Kirwan's 10 to Watch

At 6'4" 290 lbs. I think that Tennant may be a bit light to handle some of the big tackles he'd face on the regular basis in the AFC North such as Shaun Rogers, Kelly Gregg, and Domata Peko. For comparison's sake, Maurkice Pouncey is listed at 6'5" 318 lbs. I don't doubt that Tennant could have a solid NFL career (B.C. has a good o-line pipeline to the NFL), but I think he would fit better in a scheme like Denver, Houston, and now that Shanny is there, Washington.

I like Kyle Wilson, but I fear that his impressive performance at the Senior Bowl could vault him out of our range in round 2 if he follows that up with a quality combine (he could be one of those late-1st, early-2nd corners).
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

my friend who is a rabid Vikings fan is convinced that they will take Kyle Wilson with their late first round pick if he is still available. Wilson is now considered by some to be the second best CB behind Joe Haden, unless we pick him at #18 or trade down a few spots and then select him or trade up in the second round, it is very doubtful he will still be there at #52.

as for Tennant, i agree that he is too light to consistently have success against the behemoth DTs he will face in the AFC North. he will make somebody a good C though and had a good showing at the Senior Bowl. the only C that i would want is Maurkice Pouncey and he is in about the same situation as Wilson is when it comes to trying to draft him...most likely late first, early second.

So that was going to be my second question....is Kyle Wilson a viable #18 pick.

I suppose I will consult Ruthless and company's top 18 draft board to find the answer...but I've read several good things about Wilson, and just wonder why we would think he'd fall to us in 2nd round when he might be worth our first pick. Trade down scenario might be nice to where we can still grab him....

I like Wilson but I don't think Wilson is a value pick at #18, and I don't think he'll last to #52 either. If we picked late in the first as usual, he'd be a prime target, though.

But as it stands now, I would rather have, say, Dan Williams in the first and Brandon Ghee in the second than Kyle Wilson in the first and Cam Thomas in the second. I would rather have Iowa OT Bryan Bulaga in the first and Perrish Cox than Kyle Wilson in the first and the other Iowa OT Kyle Calloway in the second (there is tons of value in the CB market in rounds 2 & 3 this year, while at other positions there is more of a drop off).

More reason I would love to trade down.

Could you imagine grabbing Wilson and Odrick? Or Wilson and Pouncey? Thats just sick.

Tennant is not a bad fall back option at center. He is probably about the same size as Mangold coming out of college. I really want Pouncey if we can trade down, but drafting Tennant in the 3rd or 4th round is not a bad move either.
The Steelers’ went through seven consecutive drafts (2003-09) without taking an offensive lineman in the first two rounds, the longest such streak by any franchise this century.

Another option if we are unable to get Pouncey would be Baylor's J.D. Walton.

Have any of you guys salivating over Pouncey actually watched him play or are you just in love with the idea of a replacement for Hartwig?

Pouncey did not do any power blocking that we need to establish an inside run game. Everything Florida ran was off tackle. Pouncey is criticized as having poor leverage. That is exactly because he didn't have to drive block against big tackles.

IMO Tennant is a better prospect than Pouncey, if he can add about 20 pounds. Pouncey is not as good as any of the top 3 or 4 Center prospects from the last draft.

                    Ovi,
I've watched every gator game for 4 years. Pouncey is a hell of a football player. you're right though, most of their run game was off tackle. but Pouncey was exceptional in getting the second level and when they did run between the tackles he did a really good job. they just didn't have the backs to run those plays. Pouncey is the real deal.

I really liked Alex Mack as a first round pick last year and liked Mangold as a first round pick 4 years ago, but I would only take Pouncey this year if he were available in the second (so I realize that he is not one of the elite center prospects, but he should be a solid one). I think Pouncey's positional versatility is similar to Max Unger's last year, and he will come off the board around the same time (i.e. will not make it down to 52), so this will likely all end up being moot anyway.

I think we'll ultimately end up waiting until next year to draft our center of the future in the late first round (USC's O'Dowd or PSU's Wisniewski). I think both of those guys next year will be rated as better center prospects next year than Pouncey is this year.
