You make a fair point, but part of what makes Troy so good is the un-stiffled ability to freelance.

He's free to play totally by his instincts. That's why we need a journeyman FS paired with him. Someone who will stick to his assignment while Troy does what Troy does.

Stiffling Troy's instincts so someone else can freelance would be a mistake, imo.

Ward is a tackling machine in run support who can also really lay the lumber on guys coming across the middle. But he has 3 interceptions and 13 passes defensed in 37 college games. If that is what you are looking for in your free safety, we already have that...his name is Ryan Clark. If we want a potential upgrade there, I would look for more of a ball-hawking, playmaking FS (since our corners don't seem to be able to make plays on the ball, it would be nice to have two safeties who could).

Note Chadman's mock draft Ruthless- taken care of the CB's inability to catch in the 1st round..
Ugh...I don't like Patrick Robinson at #18 whatsoever. Haden is the only CB I would consider worthy of that pick, and he'll be long gone. We will more likely target a CB in round 2, and I like Donovan Warren, Kyle Wilson, Brandon Ghee, and Perrish Cox better than Patrick Robinson. I think Robinson is on the 3rd tier of corners with guys like Devin McCourty, Dominique Franks, and Kareem Jackson.

And for what it's worth, I don't like Gerhart in round 2 either. I hate the idea of drafting a RB in the first two rounds to begin with, but if you plan to pick a big back early, why not go with someone like Jonathan Dwyer or Anthony Dixon instead? I wouldn't touch Gerhart until round 4 at the earliest (and since another team will likely fall in love with him earlier than that, I would likely lose out on him, but so be it).
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I love troy and the way he plays. but i think that's why he gets hurt... so maybe reigning him in a little bit would be a good idea...

          Rounds 2-3

          Reshad Jones Georgia
          Nate Allen S Florida

If we want someone who has a chance to start immediately, these may be the only candidates.

I feel Taylor Mayes and Morgan Burnett are SS only.

I'd be happy with Earl Thomas in the first, Chad Jones or Nate Allen in the second...

I would throw Major Wright in that list steel.
the best project guy would be Rolle.

if we don't draft Thomas, Jones or Allen in the first two rounds, Major Wright and Morgan Burnett would have to be considered in the 3rd round and Rolle in the 4th/5th area.

Rolle will be out of the league in 5 years. he is just trying to get enough cash in his pocket for med school and his philanthropic endevours.

He wants to go to med school and he isn't going to wait until he is 30 to do that.

I believe you are mistaking Troy's ability to come off his assignment and make a play because of his superior athletic ability and freelancing. Troy has an assignment in every defense the Steelers play. His ability to read a play and come off that assignment and make a play are what set him apart.

If he were out there just doing whatever he feels necessary the defense would suffer, because, the other 10 guys would have no idea where he's going or what he's doing and that would be bad. He's just a freak athlete with a freakishly high football IQ and that combination leads many to believe he's freelancing, IMO.

Doesn't that make a HUGE leap of faith and asumption that the rookie is actually allowed to play before Game 15?

because the defense is way too complicated for a rookie to understand until about Week 15?

Most of his injuries came when he was lining up on the LOS and taking on O linemen. LeBeau doesn't use him like that anymore and he was healthy for the entire season in 2008.

Last season's injury was a fluke. And I bet you don't see him on D during FG tries anymore.
