    OT: Bengals Keep Zimmer

    From profootballtalk:

    Bengals keep Mike Zimmer
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 12, 2010 1:32 PM ET
Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer was considered one of the most sought-after assistant coaches in the NFL this off-season, with the Redskins and Dolphins among the teams that were reportedly interested in his services. But he's not going anywhere.

Steve Wyche of NFL.com reports that Zimmer has re-signed with Cincinnati.

There's no word on the details of Zimmer's contract, but considering that he had Dan Snyder's deep pockets to use as leverage, it's probably safe to say that the Bengals gave Zimmer a hefty raise.

The Bengals hired Zimmer as their defensive coordinator in 2008. He has previously worked for the Cowboys and Falcons.

UPDATE: Wyche reports that Zimmer signed a three-year contract.
Good move for the Bengals. I was hoping that Washington or somebody else would sign him away, because he has done a nice job with that defense.

I'm shocked we kept him. Washington definitely had to be offering more money. Zimmer appears to be one of the few people that can turn down more money for an environment he loves.

From what I hear his relationship with the other coaches and players is what kept him in Cincy...

In other assistant coaching news, the rumor was that Alex Gibbs is set to join Pete Carroll's staff as OL Coach. Would he not be a viable candidate for the Steelers to pursue?

Wow. I think Andre Smith probably promised to wear his manzier.

Zimmer is a good coach. So is Cincy's oline coach. That dude knows what he's doing.

Thank god Marvin Lewis hasn't figured it all out and Carson Palmer seems a shell of his former self.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

Isn't Alex Gibbs the cut-blocking specialist? After watching his guys take out defensive players with potential career-ending cut blocks, i'd rather not have to root for him as a Steelers coach.

Yeah, plus his o-lines in Denver and Houston were always smaller, more athletic guys. He would likely have no idea what to do with behemoths like Starks and Kemoeatu.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Good call. I just know he's had past success. He apparently did join Carroll so its a moot point now anyway.
