Steelers claim Punter Paul Ernster off waivers

He was released by the Lions today and picked up by the Steelers.

In three games with the Broncos in 2006. He averaged 44.6 yards on 17 punts with 4 inside the twenty.

I think he was the punter the Browns claimed off waivers before week 1 smackdown of them last year. He sucked in that game IIRC. How the hell does a punter tear an ACL in camp????? Is it just me or does this season have a bad feel to it? I hate this.

I think he's the guy who fumbled the snap on the punt where the browns had about
3 penalties. This is not good.

Yeah he played one game with the Browns and one with the Broncos in 2007. He averaged around 36 yards a punt in both games, not good.

I think we should bring in Scott Player. He's a veteran and a free agent. In three games last year he averaged around 45 yards a punt, certainly better than Ernster. Plus did I mention he has a crazy mustache and a one bar facemask?

        Ernster:

Maybe some sort of hyperextention/tear during the actual kick I guess... But it does have a bit of "bad start" feeling.... Sup, Troy, Casey, Kemo....

Re: Steelers claim Punter Paul Ernster off waivers

I thought Ernster was more of a kickoff specialist than a full-time punter.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

plus, did you notice he DOESN'T have a crazy mustache and he uses the full facemask
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

              but Go Steelers!!!

Wonderful! Just what the special teams need, a non-talented, 10 yard net averaging retread.

Why does this surprise you? We are shopping in the bargain bin again what else is new in Steeler land. I guess field position doesn't matter when you have an aging defensive line .

In all defense LVG, what other option is available at this point of the pre-season?... No one expected this to happen, and the quality punters are already on other teams, I would expect, since most of the camps have already started... I don't think we have any choice other than the "bargain bin", do we? .... What are the other options at this point in the process?

So let me see if I've got this straight...Sepulveda just went down for the season today and we're already supposed to have a top quality replacement for him?

                        Is that right?

Of the names listed I have to say Scott Player intrigues me more then this bum. I would even go with Gardocki he knows the team and he knows the players. Why are we so high on Detroit rejects? Cut by the Browns, Cut by the Lions and now a Steeler. Something is terribly wrong with this picture.

I would prefer "suitable". Not some clown cut by 2 bottom dwelling teams. We should fly our happy a.s.s. to Australia and pick up some rugby player that can boot the ball over 100 yards. We get a decent punter and the Steelers save some green.
