Get those # 80 jerseys back out of the closet...

You heard it here first. Plax comes out of prison and resurrects his career in a Steeler uniform. Just watched the '02 Cleveland game on NFLN, and the reasons just kept coming to me as I watched...

    1. Ben's relationship with Plax. He publicly begged the FO to resign him after the '04 season.

    2. Plax's game. It will suffer less with age than most WR's. He has never needed speed to get open - he was the slowest wideout at the combine the year he came out, 4.59 as a rook.

    3. Steelers' organization. Chris Mortensen was pushing hard on the idea that Michael Vick would end up here because of our organizational stability, supportive fan base, strong locker room, coach with job security... same factors will be in play in '11 when Plax gets out.

    4. Cost- we can get him cheap, for obvious reasons

    5. Changed attitude. Not much in this world will humblea person like a stint in corrections. He'll be burning with a desire to rebuild his image and career, and a winning organization with a star QB throwing it and Santonio Holmes opposite would seem a perfect fit.

I'm convinced it happens. While I know it's a while off, I need something to distract me from the bleak present situation and the prospect of a football - less January.

All kidding aside, I always love a good "comeback" story. Hopefully he will get a chance to make it with another team in the NFL. I would not have any problems if he came back to the Steelers.

            Add Plax?

Wouldn't that sort of be like shooting yourself in the foot?

            Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Plax said he'd come back if we install the run n shoot.

Well, we do run out of a shotgun formation an awful lot. Ben could throw him a bullet pass.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Shaun McDonald, Cedric Wilson, Terrance Mathis... Colbert has a history of bringing in bargain priced veteran free agents in at WR to augment the group. How much longer does Hines stick around? If you're in the market for a #2 or a #3 (if Wallace continues to develop, or if Sweed stops dropping the freaking ball), where else are you going to find a better fit with more potential upside? All jokes aside (and there are PLENTY to be made, for sure...) it makes sense even given the parameters of how the Steelers' FO operates.

Name the amount...I'll put it up against Burress not coming back to Pittsburgh as a member of the Steelers.

Just a general "didn't like the guy when he was here, don't want him back" feeling, or something more specific make you feel that way?

He was a major problem when he was here. The organization isn't going to bring back a guy who doesn't show up around, what was it...Mother's Day, just because? They're not going to bring back a guy who drove around town in a truck bigger than my house complaining that he wasn't getting paid. They're not going to bring back a guy who crated a myriad of different issues.

He was a great talent on the field. Off it he was a problem.

Name your bet...he's not coming back. Count on it.

Guess I should caveat this with "if some time in the pentitentiary brings a newfound humility" which is, frankly, something I expect. If he comes out the same old gun toting, pot smoking Plax, I agree... I want no part of him. But 2 years at Rikers' Island can bring on some self reflection, and I think seeing how fragile his success really was will bring big changes. If he sraightens out his head, even at 34 or however old he'll be coming out, he 'll still perform at a very high level... and I'd love to see my beloved B & G be the beneficiaries.
