      tomlin is his own man.

he was immaculately conceived and designed by God with the purpose of being the steelers coach.

i suspect those coaches all learned from mike. not so much the other way around.

I'm a fan of Gruden in general. I like the work he did on NFL Network during the draft. However, he is rarely on point and usually rambling. For example, he did a whole planned rant comparing the Steelers in the fourth Q this season to Mariano Rivera. Really? In my recollection the Steelers have been poor at best in the fourth Q up to the Minnesota game. Melt downs in Chicago and Cincinnati. Gave up a ton of points to SD. Not exactly comparable to Rivera. Still, he went on and on like we'd been lights out all season. That was just terrible commentary.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

I did find that bit extremely cheese. But if we are step away from the microscope for a minute, I think you will realize he is right. Let's look at how the Steeler's (this core group) has played for years, not just a few games were we were in a funk. With a perennial elite defense and our previous ability to run the ball down the opponents throats (that hopefully we'll find our way back too... if any organization can, it's this one), if you look at the past 5-10 years (or even the past year and half or two), you will see that what Gruden says is true. We were just in a funk for a few games. 1/4 of a season is nothing compared to the recent tradition and history of the franchise.

Well Dungy was a defensive coach, who started as a secondary coachDungy came from the Noll school. Tomlin like Dungy and Noll is not a screamer, has an even temperament, doesnt get too high or too low ect.

Stylistically, Tomlin is a Noll type persona, more than even Dungy, but that influence comes from Dungy.

Gruden is an emotional motivator, a screamer like a Cowher, Ditka, or Parcells. He also has an offensive backgound.

Furthermore, Dungy was the one who put the word in with the Steelers for Tomlin indicating a likely ongoing relationship.

I can see the whole Dungy disciple thing, especially more than Gruden.

Nevertheless, I was the one who brought up the connection. I dont know that his style is like Gruden, but they do have a history. I do think those 4 years or Tomlin working with Gruden, may give Gruden more than a little pro-Tomlin bias.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher
