Mendy Named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Steelers' Mendenhall named AFC Offensive Player of the Week
By Mark Kaboly, Daily News Sports Editor
    Wednesday, October 7, 2009

Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall has been named the NFL's AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his career game against San Diego Sunday night.

Mendenhall, the Steelers top pick in the 2008 draft out of Illinois, rushed for a career high 165 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in a 38-28 win over the Chargers. He also caught a pair of passes for 26 yards in his second career start.

Mendenhall came into the game with 45 yards rushing this season and only 103 for his career. His 29 carries was the most by any running back in a single game this season.
    I did not know that.

We are going to run Willie until his wheels fall off. Then we are going to run Rashard until his wheels fall off. Then we are going to run Mewelde until his wheels fall off. Then we are going to run Isaac until his wheels fall off.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

      Good for Mendy !!!

It was a fantastic performance. He was running just as hard on carry 29 as carry 1.

I'm giddy over the fact that this kid could just be the real deal.....

I also saw that RM was a candidate for the FexEx Ground player of the week on NFL.com as well. Very cool.

Of course, Ben had a terrific game and didn't get any love in the Air player of the week.

Lets hope it doesn't go to his head and he decides to take up tap dancing instead of reading his playbook this week.

... A "well deserved" honor this week. Especially after the fluff that happened the week before coming out about his preparation.... I expect that we'll see alot more of this latest effort from him.

The Steelers had 36 rushes (including 4 by Ben) and 34 passes (including 1 by Moore). That's excellent balance in an offense. I would love to see Mendenhall be the man and get 20 carries and give Parker the other 9 to 12, unless, he can't play at all. I would hate to see Mendenhall or any Steeler back getting the ball 29 times a game, that's too many hits. Not to mention Mendenhall will be getting some passes thrown his way.

They need to limit his hits and try to keep as healthy as possible. Use Parker and Moore a bit more during the game and keep them all fresh.
