Tomlin watched the PITT game.. PIT was up 31 to 17 and went turtle ball and it was obvious the D couldn't stop NC State.. they lost 38 to 31...

Ditto that! In this pass happy, offensively persuasive league that we call the NFL, you have to score points and keep scoring points to win games. These 13-10 defensive slugfests are becoming a thing of the past, and with the way our defense has been playing we are going to need to become more offensively oriented just to stay in these games. The good news is we have the personnel to play a more wide open, pass oriented offense. The bad news is I don't think we have the OC to effectively make the most of our talent.

These 13-10 defensive slugfests are becoming a thing of the past, and with the way our defense has been playing we are going to need to become more offensively oriented just to stay in these games. The good news is we have the personnel to play a more wide open, pass oriented offense. The bad news is I don't think we have the OC to effectively make the most of our talent.

The funny thing about that is he is a pass first kind of guy. However, he knows nothing about the run game and how to utilize it. He doesn't understand the difference between a good running game or a bad one. He makes me sick and Tomlin is starting to by doing nothing about it.

Are you really expecting Tomlin to make a tough decision and actually fire someone? He would rather hand Arians a report card on what he needs to work on. Get used to this the days of tough decisions and firings left with Cowher.

Belichick is not the be-all and end-all of coaching. Yesterday, the guy went for it on 4th down in the middle of the 3rd quarter from his own 24 yard line when the game was still 16-10. Because they converted, everything still thinks that Belichick is some kind of coaching genius. That was moronic coaching in my mind.

Nearly EVERYONE on this board was B*tching and moaning about the call to throw a 40-yard pass to Santonio in the end zone last week vs. the Bears in the 4th quarter. Everyone was complaining saying how "we have to just pick up the first down and not try anything crazy..."

Now everyone is complaining that they NEED to go for long throws to put the game away just like the Patriots did yesterday?

Which is it? You can't have it both ways. It's all about execution. If Holmes doesn't let the ball go right through his hands last week, everyone says "What a great call!! Way to go for the jugular..." He drops it and we start moaning that it's too daring and we should have tried something simple instead.

Personally I agree that we need to go for the throat more (pass more on 1st down especially) but let's not forget what was said last week on this board.

Did you watch the Bears game? It was 3rd and 1 and we threw a bomb to Santonio. Had it been 3rd and 9 nobody would have complained about the play calling. The odds are probably the same on picking up a first down on a run play as there is for a long pass play. But when it was 3rd and 1 your odds go up substantially on running for a first down as passing for one. We get the first down and this game slowly is out of reach for the Bears. Horrible play calling in my opinion.

Two curious play calls that stood out to me Sunday were Mike Tomlin’s decision to kick a field goal from Cincinnati’s 1-yard line in the first quarter, and the decision not to punt on fourth-and-4 from the Bengals’ 35 with a 13-0 lead before the half. The first decision potentially took four points off the board and the second decision helped the Bengals’ field position to add a field goal before intermission. That’s a seven-point swing in favor of the Bengals in a close game."

It's situational play calling man. On 3rd and short with 3 1/2 minutes left and a slim lead you have to go for the first down. If you don't make it the FG try is the same distance. If you do make it you've got a new set of downs and have also burned clock.
