I'd take David Akers of Philly over JR any day, just to give an example. And he'd be fine at Heinz.

In three out of the past four seasons, Akers' FG percentage was less than 80% (05 72.7%, 06 78.3%, 07 75%, 08 82.5%). Over the same time period Reed only had one season less than 80% and one season above 90% (05 82.8%, 06 74.1%, 07 92%, 08 87.1%). Just sayin'.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I know, Ruthless. But curious- how many attempts did Akers have in each of those years as opposed to Reed?

It seems like Reed's FG's are always closer as the Steelers used to stall quite a bit in the RZ over the years. I'm wondering what the stats would show, say outside of 40+ yards. How many attempts did Reed have vs. Akers or dare I say it Stover in Baltimore- Although his career is about up. Just looking at other Northeast kickers. It can't be fun kicking up in NY either when you have a low pressure system over the NE and the winds are howling in December.

Don't get me wrong- I'm a big fan of Skippy, but if there are limited funds available, I'd prefer to see those funds go to an every down player like a Clark rather than a kicker. Pay both, if you can, but if not, someone has to be let go. It's the nature of the beast.

Re: Jeff Reed gone this year?

all i know is when skippy steps on the field I am never nervous about him making the kick. sure if it's 45 yards or longer there's anticipation but inside 40 I always think he's money. I don't think the rooney's would make him the highest paid kicker in the league but I think he's one of the top 5 and should have made the pro bowl last year.
