Re: Who will be a surprise cut?

No way does Deshea get cut. He's been #3 the whole preseason and they haven't worked Ratliff at his position w/ the 1st team. Deshea has never relied on speed so he really hasn't lost a step.

I think they like what they see in McDonald and have been working Wallace and Sweed in early to get a better look at them. Plenty of room at WR for McDonald and let Wallace develop over the year.

    My Surprise Cut:
Matt Spaeth if Sean McHugh isn't seriously injured for a long period of time.
Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go...

Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go...!!!

I wonder if McHugh goes to IR? That way they don't have to cut him? Just a thought.

I'm going with Kirschke, I know it wouldn't be a terrible surprise, he's getting long in the tooth. I don't think it will be Deshea and I don't think it will be Hampton. Now THAT would be a big surprise.

I agree with the possibility of putting McHugh on IR and replacing him with Johnson for this year (with Summers on the P.S. as another possible FB option if needed). Then perhaps McHugh would have a shot at returning next year (kind of like when Batch was put on IR last year and they kept Leftwich and Dixon last year, with Batch coming back again this year).
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

and back up Ben with two youngsters? Especially not with Dixons injury right now.

If Zigs has been rotating in at DE, the Steelers would have no backup for Hoke if they cut Hampton.

Kirschke is decent but now a luxury. He will retire.

Townsend will stick around another year. He knows too much and has rookies to teach.

We need a veteran backup like McD in case Hines or Stonio go down for an extended period.

My surprise cut is Willie Colon. He gets at least one pre-snap penalty per game. Besides, we have Tony 'Lost in the' Hills waiting in the wings to assume the RT position.

I can't see Colon getting cut at all.

I was not a Willie Colon fan, but he has played well this preseason, and the coaching staff seems very high on him. I'm not sure that Hills is waiting in the wings to assume the RT position -- I think that Hills is probably on the bubble.

Speaking of Hills, I kept my eye on him for much of the game when he was in. Although he was lining up against the other teams scrubs, I thought that he looked very good - to my surprise.

The one play in particular that impressed me was IIRC the long pass dropped by Marshall. He took on the first guy, tossed him inside, then took on a second rusher who was looping around the outside. He handled them both well.

lol.....I meant Brandon Williams. I guess when thinking about a receiver named Brandon then last name Marshall springs to mind these days.

He actually had a few nice catches. If he had been able to snag that ball he would have had a very nice game.

Toronto, I agree with you about Hills. I replayed the Cardinals preseason game in slow motion to check the O-Line and Hills was very quick off the snap and didn't allow anyone near the QB. I was really amazed to see him getting off the line and in to a blocking stance so quickly. It almost looked like he was jumping early, but when I replayed it he was not pulling a "Willie Colon." He was just that much quicker than the other lineman. I would be very surprised if Hills is cut. In fact I'm hoping that Hills, Capizzi, Legursky, Urbik and Shipley are all kept on the 53 man roster. But, realistically, I think one of them along with Foster will be on the PS if they are not snapped up by another team.

I did not replay the Cards game, nor did I watch Hills, but I'm glad to hear what you are saying. Of course he can only show his stuff against next week's Wal Mart greeters, but that is who they line him up against. After hearing all the crap talked about him lately, I was very surprised to see him look good. Combined with his draft status, I think he is an easy keeper this year.

I have seen Hills do some good stuff too but I also saw Orapko literally lift him into the air and throw him back about three feet. Still work in progress but I would keep him.

Legursky and Urbik will be on the Final 53. With Legursky on the 53 I don't think they try to keep Shipley and will move him to the PS. I also think Foster makes the 53 with potentially Capizzi as the odd man out unless they keep 10 OL.

Agreed - Starks, Kemo, Hartwig, Essex, Colon as your starters

Legursky, Urbik, Hills as your next three

one or two spots to choose between Foster, Capizzi
