Yesterday, around 6:15, Lil Miss Jigawatts and her younger sister were playing on their
play set. Li'l Miss Jigawatts was climbing the ladder to the top while I was at the bottom
guiding my younger girl up the steps because she's the one I always worry about falling.
Well, Li'l Miss Jigawatts turned to look down to see how far away her sister was, and
then she lost her grip and tumbled off the ladder about 5 1/2 feet right in front of me.
I couldn't react quick enough to catch her, and I'm almost glad I didn't because things
might have ended up worse if I missed and changed her path enough to hit her head,
neck or back, but she braced her fall with her hand. I knew instantly that she either
broke or dislocated her elbow. If any of you watched wrestling, you might remember when
Eddy Guerero dislocated his elbow when a stunt off the turnbuckle went wrong. It looked
exactly like that.
We rushed to the Youngstown branch of the Akron Childrens Hospital where she was
diagnosed with a slight fracture to her wrist, as well as a broken humerus. A piece
of the humerus chipped off, rotated 75 degrees, and now is just floated around there.
So we soldiered off to the main hospital in Akron, where we were told they would be
ready for surgery as soon as the ambulance arrived, and of course they weren't. After
a few hours there, the doctor discharged her and explained that he'd call today sometime
before lunch, to let us know if she needed surgery or not. This p*ssed me off, because
we knew %100 that she'd need surgery, but for some reason they didn't want to do it
then. We got home at 3:30 A.M. and Li'l Miss Jigawatts has to wait until tomorrow to
have surgery.
Oh, and the surgery is to pin the broken piece of the bone back onto the humerus.
Li'l Miss Jigawatts, a true Jigawatt and Steeler fan, is one tough little girl. Surgery
is at 8:00 A.M. Saturday, wish her luck.
