Re: Colon inches closer to big payday
Does anyone wonder how much of Colon's struggles have been him, and how many have been a result of poor play at RG for the whole time he's been a Steeler?
Last year, 2 games spring to mind for Chadman with Colon in mind. In fact, break that down to two plays.
In the last game against the Ravens Ngata got a sack on Ben, beating Colon. Thing is- when you watch the play, Colon stonewalls Ngata from the snap. For as long as Ben is in the pocket, Ngata was nowhere near Ben. But once Ben rolled right, Ngata had the foot speed to get by Colon & get the sack. While you still want your OT's to be able to block for Ben on the run, you have to be able to assess the strengths of the guys you have in front of you, blocking for you. If you know Colon is slow footed, DON'T PUT HIM IN A FOOT RACE.
The 2nd play was in the Super Bowl- the 'safety'. Hartwig gets owned. Stapleton gets owned. But have a look at Colon on the play. He destroys the outside pass rusher, and doesn't get pushed into the End Zone on the play.

Colon has his weaknesses. That's a given.
But he is not completely hopeless.
Ig the interior play was to improve, Chadman believes Colon would look a lot better.
Just don't get him running around!
