Last seasons d was definitely the best I can remember. However, the 1976 d is widely considered the best of all time. If this defense can stop the run as well as it has in recent yrs, we can be better than 08. The pressure on the qb will be there. I'm a little worried about the rush defense though. Snack is a yr older and there could be a dropoff from foote to timmons. If Timmons plays thr run as well as he defends the pass, we will be fine though. Having snack in a contract yr is big too.

Or watching the SuperBowl when Timmons made Warner hurry the throw to Harrison for the 100 yard pick 6.

Wow...quite the prediction, considering that the sack total for the entire team last year was 51. The record number of sacks for the team was 55 (in 94 and 01). But you think that Harrison, Farrior, Timmons, and Woodley can break the 50 barrier on their own? Wow. Last year, these four linebackers had 36 sacks between them (Harrison 16, Woodley 11.5, Timmons 5, Farrior 3.5). How do you see those extra 14+ sacks you are predicting being distributed among them?

The SUMO-INDEX CALCULATOR factors in 5 out of the 13 teams we face in this year's vanilla regular season schedule are in the top ten in offensive line rankings (Browns, Packers, Vikes, Bolts and Broncos). We've owned the stains... the rest are bottom midpack to bottom dwelling in this category, which translates to increased production from our pass rush. My very generous prediction/distribution of the sacks is as follows:

        Woodley 17
        Harrison 14
        Timmons 11
        Farrior 9

        51 total

You're giving an unproven linebacker a lot of credit saying he will make those around him better. One of those around him is the reigning defensive player of the year. I believe the DPoY will be making Timmons better by requiring more than one blocker and Timmons and Woodley will look like the heroes.

Just my take on a guy that hasn't been a full time starter yet.

          Pappy
Timmons has closing speed like Troy and hits like Farrior. Teams have to protect their QB from that. Harrison and Woodley are a threat to sack your QB on every play. Timmons is a threat to hurt your QB.

I've seen enough of Timmons to know how fast he is and how hard he can hit.

Harrison and Woodley, as great as they are, don't have the freakish athleticism that Timmons has.

I'm not knocking your DMVP in any way.

If Woodley treats every game like it's the playoffs, that 32 sacks for Wood.

Then the other guys just have to get 6 apiece. totally doable. it's all gonna come down to Wood.

If the offense could play better and score more, we could force teams to pass more. And that would play into our strength.

Plus Casey's playing for a contract and in way better shape. I think he had some nagging injury last year and wasn't up to par. If Casey is back to normal, this defense could be sick.

Re: Speedy Timmons adds new dimension

I don't doubt LT has pass rush speed and this will be his biggest asset to the D. However, I hope he can shed inside blockers better than I have seen. Maybe it was a case of not knowing where he was supposed to be, but we will absolutely need him to be stout on run defense, against B-more in particular.

You take way a couple of sacks from Harrison and still get to 51? That's some potent Kool-Aid, brother.

I was thinking you might go with something like:
                  Harrison 18
                  Woodley 16
                  Timmons 10
                  Farrior 7
                  to get 51
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.
