Here are some noteworthy things from the second Steelers' practice Saturday.
· James Harrison made second-year left tackle Tony Hills look like a turnstile during a pass rush/pass block drill this afternoon. I know Harrison is tough to handle for any tackle, but he made Hills look absolutely helpless.
The good thing for Hills is that it was only the first day. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin didn't mix words in showing how little he puts into first-day performances. When asked which players impressed him during the two practices, Tomlin said, "None." Alrighty then.
· The Steelers emerged from the first day of practice relatively unscathed. Tomlin said there were no injuries to report following the second practice. Linebacker Lawrence Timmons, guard/center Doug Legursky and running back Isaac Redman didn't finish the afternoon practice, Tomlin said, because of cramps.
· Tomlin is already tiring of questions about quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and how he is dealing with the civil lawsuit recently brought against him for sexual assault.
"I understand it's that time of year and it's something to talk about, but it's not going to be an issue for us. It's really not," Tomlin said after the team's afternoon practice. "If this derails our football team, then we've got a lot more problems than this story."
· You've gotta love Ryan Clark. After dropping an interception during an 11-on-11 drill, the veteran free safety dropped to the turf. He then cranked out 10 push-ups to the delight of the crowd that packed the grounds of Saint Vincent College.
Clark later made amends for the drop, as he scooped up a Roethlisberger pass before it hit the ground. It had slipped through Santonio Holmes' hands after Roethlisberger threw the pass a little behind the Super Bowl MVP.
