Re: Tomlin to coach season without new contract?

The gallery has spoken. Way to step up to the plate guys. I was wondering who would be coming to his rescue. If you guys don't realize the Steelers were almost forced to hire a minority then you are about as blind as D. I still say that if the Steelers didn't hire a minority they would have looked like hypocrits to the rest of the league. They would be saying to the league, "minorites are O.K. to interview but they aren't worthy of a head coaching job." The Steelers were forced to hire Tomlin whether you believe it or not.

I would love to hear what you guys would be saying if Whiz's Cardinals made it to the Super Bowl in his second year and Tomlin's Steelers didn't. If you gave Whiz the players Tomlin inherited and Lebeau I bet the Steelers make it to the Super Bowl too. So has Tomlin really went above and beyond. I don't think so. Does anyone remember Barry Switzer, Jon Gruden, Bill Callahan? All guys that took over a good team and made it to the Super Bowl. And all guys that will be featured on the next edition of "where are they now?"

So once again before we do something crazy like lockup a coach that could be the next Switzer, Callahan or Gruden can we at least wait for some turnover from Cowhers team to happen before talking extension?

Re: Tomlin to coach season without new contract?

Here's my question. Who cares if they lock him up. Essentially, it is the Rooneys money one way or the other. Let's say they lock him up for ten years and fire him in five because he doesn't work out (I don't expect that would happen -- but really that's the only reason to not want to lock him up). Well then who cares. It doesn't impact the salary cap or anything -- it's just a straight sunk cost to the ownership.

Whiz is gone and so really it's talking about the past/alternate universes to say what would or wouldn't have happened. If a butterfly flaps his wings etc. Speaking of the hear and now I'd love to know whose out there as a possible hire that should give the Steelers pause about locking him up.

We have a coach who, by all indications, is worth keeping. People can argue until they are blue in the face as to why he was hired or why Whiz took another position before the steelers made their decision. And really none of that matters and the only question now is does the ownership give him a long term deal to keep him here.
In response to his pleas, an officer said: "You think we've never arrested somebody that's made national media? ... We deal with the Bengals all the time."

According to the rule, they were forced to interview a minority, that's it. Steelers were not forced to hire a minority. They would only look like hippocrates if they did not interview a minority candidate. Why are you making it more complicated than it has to be? Why does it matter? It appears that Tomlin was a good choice. Man, you are looking pretty bad. Especially since Tomlin helped the team win a SB.

No one can say for sure that Whiz would had taken this team to the SB. Maybe Whiz would not give Ben as much freedom in the offense? Why is it that you think they do not get a long?

Tomlin is entering the 3rd year of a 4 year deal. How long do you suggest they wait to extend Tomlin? How long should we wait for that turnover? When Ben retires? Teams in the NFL appear to be in constant turnover. The Steelers are not different. Time will tell but it appears that Tomlin helped the organization draft some pretty good players.

How long should they wait to talk extension with Tomlin?

Someone has an issue with Tomlin for the wrong reason. Because Tomlin was hired under the Rooney rule.

I agree, it is pointless talking about what Whiz would had done if he was hired.

I agree, it appears that Tomlin will be the coach of the Steelers for at least the next 5 or 6 seasons. He might last 10 to 15 season with the Steelers. Regardless of what happens this season, Tomlin will probably get a 3 or 4 year extension. I can live with that but some people can't.

Thanks for rescuing me guys...I was in real trouble there.

Btw, for those who live in the Burgh, or those who did at the time...how long did it take before people stopped saying, "Lets see what Cowher does when Noll's players are no longer on the team"?

I mean, Noll went 7-9 in his last season and Cowher went 11-5 in his first.

Damn just rereading my post and I notice that I have been tripped up by homophones yet again. Meant to use here and who's.
