Re: Steelers Training Camp: Lawrence Timmons

Keisel is a pressure machine and got a ton of sacks in limited work when he was playing in pass rushing situations primarily.

Of course 10 sacks is a lot for a 3-4 DE, but Keisel's got the skill set to do it.

Smith is great, but he is built different than Keisel. Keisel has freakish speed for his size which was evident when he was a special teams standout and almost always the first guy on the unit down the field on most kickoffs.

On the flipside, Keisel's not as good at taking on blockers and against the run like Smith. But his pass rush skills are off the chart for a guy that plays his position.

I still think we can see 10+ sacks out of him.

I found this fact simply astounding.....
And the other two were Robin Cole and Huey Richardson!

The others all came later in the draft:

      Andy Russell: 16th round
      Jack Ham: 2nd round
      Jack Lambert: 2nd round
      Bryan Hinkle: 6th round
      David Little: 7th round
      Mike Merriweather: 3rd round
      Hardy Nickerson: 5th round
      Greg Lloyd: 6th round
      Jerry Olsavsky: 10th round
      Levon Kirkland: 2nd round
      Chad Brown: 2nd round
      Jason Gildon: 3rd round
      Earl Holmes: 4th round
      Carlos Emmons: 7th round
      Joey Porter: 3rd round
      Clark Haggans: 5th round
      Kendrell Bell: 2nd round
      Larry Foote: 4th round
      LaMarr Woodley: 2nd round

I don't think that any team could come close to this type of draft success at one position.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Re: Steelers Training Camp: Lawrence Timmons

While many of you are talking about sacks from Timmons, Chadman believes the biggest impact could come from his pass defence. His size/speed ratio allows him to easily match up with either TE's or RB's, which should have some impact on Ryan Clark & how free Clark will be to 'roam'. Timmons could effectively remove the short to intermediate zone, giving Woodley & Harrison more time to get to the QB.

When you have players like Timmons & Polamalu on the field at the same time, Chadman sees the potential for an astounding defence this season.

5-6 sacks from Timmons would be nice.

More important is how quickly he can hit the flats to stop RB's from getting outside, and how well he can remove those shorter passing routes.

If he does that, these non-splash plays in some regards, it'll free up the other Steelers defenders to really excel this season.

Chadman will say it now- Timmons is the best ATHLETE on the roster. Hopefully he can put a football brain on, and then we might see the best all-around LB the Steelers have had in a very long time.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

        Light up the darkness.

Timmons made Troy's season last year imho.

And he can run with WRs, including Derrick Mason who no one can cover.

Timmons has a huge impact on 3rd downs....

          Everything else is gravy...

And like you said, other pass rushers get freed up, cause teams can't risk getting their QB killed.

Everyone's stats will be better with Timmons on the field.....

You can't afford to double or triple Harrison when Timmons is on the field. Timmons can seriously hurt someone. That needs to be accounted for imho and that's what will free up Harrison to be better. And everyone else.

Larry Foote didn't see the double teams Timmons will have to get....

It will be interesting to see how well Timmons holds up playing in the middle on a consistent basis. There will be times when he will have to take on big guards and FBs.

I agree. Timmons takes away the option of a quick dump off to a TE or RB which forces the QB to hold the ball longer so Woodley and Harrison can deal death and destruction.

I could see 3-4 INTs by Timmons this season to go along with 5-10 sacks.

the swing pass to the RB is what kills our pass rush.. The pats were notorious for going underneath and late to Faulk...

but last year what did Timmons do in the Pats game?

Who knows how he holds up over the middle but in pass coverage we will see a LB terrorizing guys..

but last year what did Timmons do in the Pats game?
I'll take "returned an interception 89 yards down to the 1 yard line" for $800, Alex.

But James Harrison watched Timmons' runback on that play and made a mental note...if that ever happens to me, there is no way I am going down at the 1...I'm getting into that end zone come hell or high water...this may come in handy one day.

He'll hold up as good or better than Foote. Foote was not a "big" ILB either. And I doubt that you will see Timmons get his AZZ trucked as often as you saw Foote get ran over.
