    Rats sign Drew Bennett

Kind of funny to see their fans excited about a guy 4 other teams passed on recently.

Ravens, WR Drew Bennett agree to 1-year deal

    (AP) – 5 hours ago

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Wide receiver Drew Bennett has agreed to a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, who are looking for help at the position in the wake of the retirement of Derrick Mason.

Bennett worked out with the Ravens on Friday and passed a physical before accepting the offer.

The 6-foot-5 Bennett played one game with St. Louis last year because of a foot injury. Over an eight-year career he has 307 catches for 4,412 yards.

Mason, the Ravens' leading receiver last season, announced his retirement on July 13. Although Mason may decide to return, the addition of Bennett gives Baltimore much-needed depth.

Bennett's most productive season was in 2004, when he had 80 catches for 1,247 yards and 11 touchdowns with Tennessee.

Not a bad signing for them, but certainly not one that will fill the void of Mason should he decide to stay retired.

The bastard-offspring of the worst team in football can acquire all the “Drew Benettes” that they want. I am just personally quite happy that Mason is history, but I am still a bit skeptical regarding the permanency of his retirement.

If Harbaugh is so confident that Mason is going to show up for camp, then why sign Bennett?
